Could Indiana make it up to the top 10-15 after opening against Old Dominion, Kennesaw and Indiana State?

Yes, they could if enough teams ahead of them loses, and they win decisively.

Buffalo got a vote, so in theory that should be a more challenging game than Wisconsin? 🤯

A preseason poll with Illinois and Indiana inside the top 20, 99% of laypeople would guess it’s a basketball ranking.

Illinois at 12 is absurd.

I'd be interested in hearing why you think so. Illinois finished the previous season ranked 16th in the country, and it looks like they have a fair amount of returning talent. They were 10-3, with losses to Penn State, Oregon and a pretty good Minnesota team.

If not them, then who?

My comment was due to my blind hatred of that rotund SoB that has had our number for 15 years. Illinois is a good team and they deserve top 25. I don't think they're clearly better than 13 through 19. I'd probably put them around 20.

They had one of the easiest schedules possible and basically lost to the 3 good teams they played. They finished lower than the Gophers in computer rankings..

That said, they will be solid this year and have another very easy schedule. 12 is too high though.

It appears that the coaches rank us #10 in the BIG. At this point in time, I have no problem with that.

Really if you’re 10th it means you’re 1-2 games out of 4th
And 4th means you go to the playoff 80% of the time or more

So I would love to be in position to play big time games in late October

Late October and November is for contenders and not pretenders. We have failed to be a contender for a long, long time.
