All Things 2025 Minnesota Timberwolves Off-Season Thread

On his Veteran's contract, only $2.4M counts towards our Cap which is basically what Garza and Minott were being paid.

I would've had Ingles on our bench this season but as a coach, not a player. That's a valuable roster spot. It wasn't that long ago when we gave a roster spot to an undrafted Rookie that showed potential.
Players love him as a locker room guy, staff loves him as a practice player and motivator.

Wolves get a 2027 2nd round pick and cash from it.

This is the second wolves deal in the last five days with "cash considerations." One of the major concerns about Lore and ARod was that they were under capitalized. This doesn't help the perception. (Yes, I know about Schmidt and Bloomberg. No clue what their actual involvement is or is not.)

This is due to staying under the 2nd apron. Has nothing to do with capital

This is a pretty standard return for a team that doesn't want to take back any salary in a S&T deal. More importantly, they received a $7M TPE that could be used to acquire depth at C or PG.

My favorite virtual GM with some hard data!!!

SGA megadeal is done. 4 years 285mil extension. Still has 2 years at current amount and doesn't matter because they already got their ring, but if they bring everyone back they will be over 180mil for 5 players in 2 years (SGA, Chet, Williams, Caruso, Hartenstein).

Dort, Chet, and Williams all extension eligible now so we'll see how the dominoes fall

Got any insights into whom the C or PG may be??
Not much for buzz about the Wolves around the league. Purely a guess but with MEM buying out Cole Anthony, he seems like a viable option for PG depth and my favorite target.

The options at C are even worse. I was hoping we could somehow afford Yabusele but he just signed with the Knicks. Mo Wagner would be a nice C/F but appears to be resigning with ORL.

When C's like Garza don't last 24 hours on the open market, you know the options are pretty lean. It's highly unlikely but maybe Beringer's defense is evolved enough to give us 10-12 minutes a night right away.

The options for bigs are going to be the exact same as last year with Rudy, Naz and Julius playing all the minutes and the kid spot playing here and there 5-10 minutes a game. Much rather have him getting the minutes and developing. there are random bigs that will sign for minimum if you're just looking for spot duty.

In all honesty, I think this team is going to pretty much stand pat and try give Dilly, TJ, and Clark much expanded roles (plus let Ant keep handling it quite a bit), which I think is the right call as you need to know and figure that out. If Conley flips to playing 10 min/game and facilitating with the above guys going up 5-10 min or one taking the reins, the minutes will be fine. really would only want to sacrifice that if you're getting someone who could really break it open for us. Anthony would certainly add a bunch of scoring off the bench for the 2nd unit which would be nice.

It seems everybody loves Joe but I also think its fair to ask if it's the best use of cap space and a roster spot.

I believe "culture" is very real. We have Conley to mentor Dilly and drafted Beringer knowing his fellow Frenchman in Rudy was here to mentor him. With Ingles being an Aussie, maybe we're hanging on to him to look after "The Donk of Dunk" in Zikarsky.

As you suggested, the Wolves are talented enough to let Beringer learn on the job and get some minutes right away. Finch's history with younger players suggest this might not be the case, though.

As a rookie, Derrick Lively's only offense was rim running but could do some things defensively and got minutes all year. By the time the Playoffs rolled around, he was seasoned and played very effective minutes for DAL.

Wish we had more options and we’re going to be more aggressive!!!

Who knows, maybe thst is still in the cards??

Finch’s rookie usage reminds me how Brewster never let Gray see the field, no matter what the score, Weber was playing!

It’s a penny wise and a pound foolish!!

DEN adding some decent depth with the extra cap space gained in the MPJ trade:

Jonas Valanciunas
Tim Hardaway Jr
Bruce Brown

The TPE piece of it was good. I would have preferred an additional second, even if a few years out, to cash considerations. This was their second cash considerations deal in a week. It's not a good look.

They were always going to stay under the second apron, which makes sense. Asking ATL for an additional 2nd round pick, even post 2030 was achievable. Second round picks get tossed around like candy in the NBA. This was the second cash considerations deal in a week. Not a good look.

I agree...the optics of any deal that includes cash is terrible, especially for a new ownership group. We appear to be willing to spend right up to the 2nd Apron so that has to be a positive sign.
