Shama: Medved is a popular hire as the new men’s Golden Gophers basketball coach. That won’t translate immediately into big crowds at The Barn though

General impression so far is Niko Medved is a popular hire as the new men’s Golden Gophers basketball coach. That won’t translate immediately into big crowds at Williams Arena, though. The Gophers might do well to see about a 2,000 sale increase in season tickets for the 2025-2026 home schedule. That could push the total into the 7,000 range.

Go Gophers!!

Winning and a competitive home preseason schedule. People are not going to show up for Southeast Northeast Westeast Columbia School of Mining. It's insulting.

Two openings left. Schedule St. Thomas and a decent power 5 opponent.

Scheduling a halfway decent home non con schedule in his first year was a layup and Medved clanked it. We aren't asking for much. Disappointing.

KU vs the Gopher for a home and home in two iconic venues!!!!
Back in the day the non-conference schedule featured serious midwestern opponents: Marquette; Loyola (Chicago); Drake; Bradley; Iowa State; Creighton. I understand scheduling is now more complicated but one home game against a top 70 or so regional opponent would be a good start.

IN! Would be amazing. Can't ever see it happening, I thought the only shot was when Cole was at KU when teams would arrange home-and-home games for many players in their home state, but outside of a few examples, that's a bygone era.

Go Gophers!!

If they add 2000 season ticket holders in year one that would be a homerun!

In the CBJ era that would be a grinder of a game against a D4 team picked last in their conference with nobody taller than 6’2

Harvey Wallbanger University? 🤔

I forgot that the past staff mentioned being ‘tricked’ with scheduling. What was that all about again?

Yes, almost 30% increase.
According to a post from November 6 2024 regarding a Shama article:

Per Shama:
As of last week, the men’s program had sold 4,482 full season tickets including 242 to faculty and staff.

So if they did add 2,000 season tickets, it would be an increase of 44.62%, and those 2,000 new ST's would constitute 30.85% of all season tickets.

Honestly, I think a Tubby Smith was the only one that did that. He was such a huge name and a legend. I truly believe crowds will build, but it will take a lot of winning, and better match-ups in the NC.

I still stand by the fact that the season ticket holders from last year, that actually went to games (their tix were scanned) should automatically get NCAA tickets the next time the Gophers go. The past year years were full of die-hards that were loyal af.

Some of the season ticket holders around us resell their seat and haven’t come to a game in awhile. Still scanned but yeah not really attended by said original purchaser.
