Oops, I got the wrong guy. It was Randy Wittman's son...what was his first name? Ryan!

But Wolters was another who could easily have played in a major conference.
 

Groves and Wagner are very similar players. Wagner is an inch or so taller and isn't a ball handler, played inside some at Totino anyway as a jr. Groves is a 2 in college, Wagner a 3, probably.

Both are limited with lateral quickness on the defensive end. Not saying their offense and shooting couldn't make it a decent trade off, but that's why they aren't highly rated. When you see players with Gaudy stats in 3A and 4A, and they don't have high offer lists, it's usually because of two questions: will their games transfer to the next level, and/or can they guard a position?

MN could use a player or two like this, but I wouldn't want a roster full of them. My wife is an Iowa fan, and under McCaffrey they would start 5 unathletic but skilled guys, they would put up 85, but they'd give up 90!

Lubbock has to be the worst city/location for a Power 4 team. It's an isolated armpit of a city.

I don’t know but obviously somebody has now told him he can make some coin at a high major or he wouldn’t be passing up a Yale scholly. 6-5 and a sharpshooter works for me…Hoffarber comes to mind.

He reminds me of a less athletic and slightly worse shooting version of JP Macura. He kind of plays bully ball where he is quick enough to get by most HS forwards and stronger than almost all HS guards. I think coaches see him and they think an athletic 6'5" -6'5" player might lock him up.

All of that said, he is a really smart player and a good passer. I have a hard time envisioning a scenario where he couldn't be quality depth at the wing.

Ivy League does not offer merit-based scholarships of any kind -- academic or athletic. There has been a court case challenging the athletic scholarship ban that I do not believe has been decided yet. The only aid (provided by the actual university) at Ivy League schools is need-based.

To the younger folk here, Monson took Rico Tucker instead of Woodside, which turned out to be a mistake. The phenomenon of Gopher coaches passing up local kids in favor of flashy players from elsewhere (e.g., Wright versus Washington) has bitten us over the years.

When I was considering transferring from my first college, Texas Tech was one of the destination schools I considered. I discovered that one of the members of the university's advising office was an alumnus so I went to talk to him about the place. His response was: "Not everyone is suited to live in the high plains of West Texas."

He isn't a shooter. Most his points come from finishing at the rim due to his strength and footwork. He can shooter but definitely not a Sharpshooter
