You also have to consider that NM is not part of the new Pac 12 unlike the other top MWC schools so that job gets worse than it has been with the conference getting worse. Is Xavier really that much better of a job than New Mexico? Seems like he had a pretty good gig there. Just $$, or the perception that the Big East is a better conference?
Fair enough...makes sense. You also have to consider that NM is not part of the new Pac 12 unlike the other top MWC schools so that job gets worse than it has been with the conference getting worse.
If the Mountain West had stayed intact or New Mexico had been tapped for the PAC-Whatever rebirth, the Lobos ability to retain Pitino would have exponentially higher. Understatement. You also have to consider that NM is not part of the new Pac 12 unlike the other top MWC schools so that job gets worse than it has been with the conference getting worse.
Closer to home for him as well. The job is an upgrade. Is Xavier really that much better of a job than New Mexico? Seems like he had a pretty good gig there. Just $$, or the perception that the Big East is a better conference?

As Diehard said, the Mountain West was...was a cool conference but not so much now.Is Xavier really that much better of a job than New Mexico? Seems like he had a pretty good gig there. Just $$, or the perception that the Big East is a better conference?
I've read that with revenue share and no football, the Big East will be spending about $7 per years on rosters and that will be $1-2M more than power conferences with Football. Big East will be must watch if teams are put together well.Is Xavier really that much better of a job than New Mexico? Seems like he had a pretty good gig there. Just $$, or the perception that the Big East is a better conference?
