Niko says Dave Thorson will join the staff

I’m not sure why this is awkward. Thomson had a chance to come home when Ben was hired. He might have stayed with Niko.
 





I always get a chuckle out of people that question coaches and their assistant hires. Like they know their relationships and what they are looking for.

Thorson was with Medved under Haskins. He was at Drake, he was at CSU, he came home to be with Ben, and now is going to stay with Medved.

I would have been more surprised had he not kept him around.

I suppose so. Just seems like recycling old ideas. Also the optics of having an assistant from a terrible time in Gophers men's basketball.

FWIW I very much support Medved. Just don't understand/agree with this decision but Medved knows what he's doing.
 

Welp, given the fact that Thorsen wasn't terminated, would it be a Medved hire at all? Seems more like a retention.

I’d imagine if Ben were to get another job as head coach it would be difficult for him to find assistants since he was head coach only 4 years and his network may be fairly small.
 

Thorson was a winner at DeLaSalle. He knows high school basketball in Minnesota. The high school coaches know him. He raised money when he was at De. It makes total sense that he's on the coaching staff. A very smart move.

Class act for Niko to salute Ben. Niko knows how hard the job truly is, unlike most (all) of us on this board. He knows how Ben must feel to be fired from his alma mater after Ben poured his heart and soul into the job.
