All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

or....Niko asking that Thorson be at least his transition guy, helping retain players, helping pick a staff.
Could be either.
if i remember correctly, Dave Thorson's job at De Lasalle was in the fundraising role, and coaching. So maybe him having that background would make him a GM candidate or at least more visible in the NIL fundraising role. either way i think he is a great guy to still have around the program

Dave is the only one who has been doing fundraising now. Much of the NIL the Gophers had this past year was thanks to him. Ben did nothing.

It is interesting to see the speculation on who the next coach will be. Keep in mind no one was speculating Ben before he was hired. Did anyone expect Richard Pitino to be named coach? I remember Tubby being a complete surprise. This forum's record of predicting the BB coaching hire has been dismal.

It's not only posters here...a lot of articles as well.

Bad Gopher said Ben was mentioned as a candidate prior to the announcement.

Read the threads, he has 9 freshmen and sophomores. 3 sophomores start. Two freshmen are Minnesota natives.

Or one could just look at the rosters on College Basketball at Sports Reference, or ESPN, or google "Colorado State Basketball" and click "Roster" in the search results. I'm always amazed how helpless and lazy people are in an age where information is right at their fingertips. I wonder if they could have survived during the years of my youth when we had to go to libraries or buy newspapers or get programs from teams.

The simple geek move is google "Colorado State Basketball Roster". The same thing I've done with UCSD, Yale, and about 10 others. I do it in part as I'm always curious where players are from, how far & wide coaches cast their net, transfers versus prep, etc.

Getting to the NCAA the way they did - pretty dominant in their conference tournament and on a 10-game run - combined with now the third trip to the NCAA in four years is pretty impressive for any candidate. He's not being hired because of MN ties, other than the fact that it gives us a leg up with him on other schools. It make us a draw for him beyond simply being a Big Ten school.
I think being one of us is one of the main reasons we have a chance to get him. I think he could take other dire I say better jobs if he wanted. Being one of us keeps us in play. Not the other way around.
