Caleb Williams commits to the Gophers

I like this signing. Sort of a "David vs Goliath" signing. The Gophers may not contend for the B1G title, but they should be fun to watch.
I agree and if they land Patterson and another big to go along with the two transfers they already have and you add Asuma and Grove to the core we have and the transfers and we should be fine.

His ball handling ability and quickness was excellent in the game against us. He is a 34% 3 point shooter but my guess- again based on the game I saw, he shot some really low percentage shots that he won't take here. He shoots 84% from the FT line.

Assuming that we get Patterson our guards would be
Asuma 6-3
Patterson 6-1
Mitchell 6-2
Rigsby 6-3
Williams 6-1

All but Asuma have have shot the 3 well in college.

The roster just screams for a 6-5 to 6-6 player that is a threat from 3 and can drive. Evans? Who else?
The other 6-6 kid we are tracking can't shoot.

With what we have so far- I think that the starters would be Patterson, Asuma and Mitchell at the guards with Mitchell and Garcia the forwards

I like this. But if we can land another decent big then we actually might be better than last year. And we wouldn't have a 50% ft shooter on the floor.

Just give me a team that's fun to watch, and I'm happy. The definition of "not fun" is Badger ball, where every possession they just run time off the clock.

Play intense defense, and make it interesting on offense, and I'm tuning into the games.

Frank Mitchell shot 43% from the FT line. :)

34% from three in a weak MIAC has me a little leary.. Arkansas was not in on him they through out an initial feeler… word on Snelling Ave is that he didn’t get as many offers as he thought he would… worth the scholarship 5-10 minutes a game if he is hot 15-18 minutes … I like that he is hungry and looking to prove himself
This is the correct take.

Worth taking a flyer considering the position Gopher roster currently sits.

Would be nice to hear Patterson committed now too! Patterson, Mitchell, Rigsby, Asuma, Williams would be a solid backcourt depth. Really leaves Fox and Risgby at SF options at the moment. Could really use a Wing and Center. Wing it would be nice to see them go after Trazarien White from UNC Wilmington

For those laughing at this think this kid is barely gonna play.. Arkansas was in on him too. I hear they have a pretty well respected coach who knows basketball talent down there.
Didn’t that guy get run out of town at his last job? 😂

Arkansas coach Eric Musselman and his staff are eyeing potential transfers early, reaching out to D3 standout Caleb Williams from Macalester College.

Get a clue, 1. Muss is longer the coach there 2. They contacted him in February, WENT NOWHERE 3. Didn't even get close to a visit

That's like saying I dated Kate Upton because I passed her on the street once and said hello. 🤦‍♂️
It would be more like Kate Upton reaching out to you to see if you'd be interested in dating her, but then she decides to date someone else.

I like the pickup, he is a scorer and can play, maybe a question of whether he is physical enough for the B1G but if Hawkins could withstand the rigors I see no reason that Williams can't do it. He's quick, he matched up evenly in that department when facing Hawkins.

Where did he visit since you're so keyed in? Oh wait you don't know where he visited and are just spewing BS like always.

Didn't say I knew where he visited but it is a 100% fact he didn't visit Arkansas. So I was right

Reading is hard..... find where I said anything about where he visited or find me where he visited Arkansas. You won't but just keep being dumb about it and avoiding actual facts.
A fact would have to include information you don't have. It's clear you know anything about his recruitment (or anything else about basketball for that matter).

I don't think anyone expects this guy to be a superstar, but if you're talking about a guy who comes in for 5 to 10 minutes and tries to provide some offense off the bench, I'm fine with it.

you take what you can get. Gophers have no NIL. that means no big names.

people on here complain that Ben Johnson is not a good coach or recruiter. and then they complain when he doesn't bring in better talent while working with no NIL. what the bleep do you expect?

We have had guys here that couldn't score 41 points in an empty gym. Williams did it against us. He's going to be on a mission. I enjoyed watching him that night against the Gophers...he's got some fight and talent.

He also scored 51 on 71% shooting last year. Obviously not against a D1 team. But still impressive none the less

I think he is going to have moments where he looks completely in over his head and he is going to have moments where he is a fan favorite. When he gets going, he can flat out score.

This signing is way more fun than most of the deep bench guys.

John Beilein was such an idiot for taking a D3 player named Duncan Robinson…
Remember how stupid the Bulls were when they traded Olden Polynice for that NAIA forward. I can’t recall, but I think his name was pippy or pipper or Scott something. Anyways, everyone knows the level they play at governs their ability - it’s just like so obvious.

What ever happened to that Bulls forward anyway?

I think his daughter was with Malik Beasley or somethin 🤔

It will be very interesting who will get the bulk of PT at the guard spots. With newbies with lots of game time, Asuma should get a chance to develop rather than throwing him
out there game 1. Then again he may be ready.

As one of the 10th-13th guys I'll take him. Play 5 minutes game, make two or three 3's before they figure out who you are.

As a contrast to the Cam Christie news, it land with a painful thud, I'm afraid.
Christie never scored 40 plus points versus DI competition. Williams did.
