Oregon transfer Brennan Rigsby commits to MN

We lack a guy that can take it to the hoop effectively and/or better than average from the arc and solid defender. Any left in the portal still out there? Or have they all gone to the deep pockets.

Maybe this kid just needs a change of scenery, a new system and an opportunity to shine. He can't be any worse than the German kid who just transferred out.
And worst-case scenario, he is an average but playable wing, that's a plus. He hopefully won't need a couple weeks during the Big 10 season to pout, that's another plus.

Well worst case is he plays like he just did. 43 minutes in a game and what was it...1 point?

And that he's not some defensive specialist. We're just assuming that because of his low scoring.

Press release from the U of MN:

Gopher Men’s Basketball Adds Brennan Rigsby to the 2024-25 Roster
MINNEAPOLIS -
University of Minnesota men's basketball head coach Ben Johnson has announced the addition of Brennan Rigsby (De Beque, Colo.) to the 2024-25 Golden Gopher roster. Rigsby is transferring to Minnesota after spending two seasons at Oregon. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
"Brennan brings a wealth of experience to our program," Johnson said. "He's played at a high major level on a team that went to the NCAA tournament with a coach that does a great job. Brennan has a bright future ahead of him. I love that he can shoot and score, makes great decisions with the ball, and has good size. He's a great competitive addition to our program."
Rigsby, a 6-foot, 3-inch guard, averaged 6.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 36 games played last season. He started in 21 games and shot 40 percent from the field and 35.3 from beyond the arc. Rigsby had six double-digit games, including a season-high 19 points vs. Michigan and 18 points at Washington State. He also had a season-high seven rebounds at Oregon State and at least one steal in 19 games. As a sophomore in 2022-23, Rigsby saw action in 21 games and made eight starts. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 17.8 minutes played.
Prior to his time at Oregon, Rigsby spent a season at Northwest Florida State College, where he showcased his skills. He averaged an impressive 11.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 33 games, leading the team to a NJCAA national championship in 2022. In the championship game, he scored a game-high 24 points and went 9 of 14. A native of De Beque, Colo., Rigsby played his first two years of high school at De Beque before going to Wasatch Academy in Utah.

I'm pretty high on Asuma, looks like he is going to have to contribute from day 1. I believe his able to physically. Hopefully he can bring good 3pt shooting with him.

Between Asuma, Mitchell, and Rigsby, I still don't know if we have that pure PG on the roster. That is really asking a lot of Asuma as a true freshman. Worse case Mitchell might have to slide into Hawkins role if we can't get anyone else. Still counting on Christie being gone, maybe he gets some feedback from NBA and they ask him to become a PG?
I believe Mitchell was the point guard on his Pepperdine team.

He’s serviceable but playing the point doesn’t maximize his strengths as an effective catch and shoot guy. The more he handles the ball the less effective he was shooting. Hopefully, Asuma can run the point right away. No other options yet.

He can bring the ball up the court and pass or hand off to a wing, then he can be a catch and shoot guy still
