Yeah - 250k for his last year of eligibility. Obviously who knows if that number is right, but he's accurate for the most part with this College Free agency stuff
 



I don't know how you can get behind a team when yearly, these KIDS are chasing nothing more than money. There is no loyalty. Teams like the Gophers are going to be rebuilding year in and year out and won't be able to be able to compete int he B1G. Its not just them, there are many schools that are soon going to be relegated to being known as a "Mid-major" by the product they put on the floor. I'm on board with those that want to support the team, but I won't waste my time looking at the roster til late summer. Its not worth the headache.

It's not going to die. We are just experiencing this year what smaller schools started seeing a few years back. No, I'm afraid this is an arms race that will take place annually among about 40 schools that figure out how to attract the big money. The biggest problem we have is that college sport are behind the Vikings, Twins, Wild and Timberwolves in this town. It's a little different deal in Ames or Omaha where the college team is the major attraction.

Couldn't agree more. I would say that a good 1/3 of the Gopher basketball games year happeend without me even realizing it until I was like "Oh yeah the gophers played tonight. I wonder who won". This used to be my favorite sport. Who wants to watch players play for 1 year, only to leave for a different school, then to fill his spot you have to go steal a player form somewhere else? This is a losing model, except perhaps for the teams at the top of the food chain. Interest in pograms like ours is going to dry up and it will eventually die.
 

I feel bad for Leibert. There might not be any fans left...I understand you wanting us to think this is simply a coaching problem.
 



The only positive is that if we actually have that money pocketed for a PG maybe we can get a decent replacement - or pay up for a big wing? I dont know, these are some dark times to be a Gopher fan
 


So hard to be a Gopher fan now. My SO is from Bloomington, Indiana and her whole family supports IU. Might have to wear the candy strip pants from now on. Went to Assembly Hall to watch IU take on Kansas last season and it was an unreal experience. They are one of the schools that has to money to compete at least

As much as I enjoy going to these games at the barn, I’m a little upset with myself for renewing my tickets before the season ended because if I had to wait till now, there’s a good chance I might not have renewed them.

I hate to say it GHolers but Easy Pilgrim may be right. It's not gonna matter who is the coach if you don't have adequate NIL support. Those who are sticking their heads in the sand and saying- "these reports are BS...they aren't getting that kind of money"- are wrong.

Big money is out there for the better players (top 100-150 transfers) and it is pretty darn hard to tell a kid who hasn't had much money that they should just stick where they are and not market themselves when they hear their friends making bank.

There are a lot of things that have something to do with Ben. This isn't one of them.

Coaches are going to look at the NIL treasure chest available before they even consider a job. That will be one of the driving factors in attracting new coaches.

Not sure firing the coach at this point would accomplish much of anything other than having more guys jump into the portal while you go through the hiring process in order to bring in a new coach after most of the key portal guys already have new homes.

At this point you may as well ride out the upcoming year with Johnson, maybe make the move before the end of the season if the team fails and try to get a jump on getting a new coach early.
 

The big difference is:

- it used to be that we knew we were never going to get blue chips, never be in the running, but if you found some diamond in the rough or otherwise convinced the guy the come here … he was here. He was yours.

- now ….. you get him for one year, then someone bigger steals him.


Great if you’re a fan of one of the top 15 programs. S__t for everyone else

Probably have to at this point. If you aren't going to be able to buy your roster at the Big Ten level your probably have very little chance of succeeding.

Duke isn't immune to this either. Now granted they will have an easier time bringing in new talent but they lost a ton to the portal as well.

Yeah BJ isn't going anywhere between now and next season. But his odds of sticking around after next season are now near zero.

This is kind of where I'm heading. The on-field/court/ice product is still exciting, I just have started to slowly follow recruiting and offseason stuff less and less. Probably good for me anyway.

Have you seen their recruiting class? The guys they lost wouldn’t have played.
