Spring Practice Observations

national weather service forecast for Mpls -

This Afternoon
A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

it's a lose-lose situation. if they start the practice outdoors and it rains, people will complain. if they move it indoors, people will complain.

Fleck is a control freak. the last thing he wants is for a public practice outdoors that turns into a windy, rainy mess. the safe choice is to move it indoors where you know the weather will not be a factor.

Saturday on the other hand looks perfect for a Spring game if one had been scheduled 🙁

People really worked up over something that at most attracts 8,000 people, on a Saturday, and on a Thursday, 1,500 at most.

It's Spring ball and unless they start to scrimmage another opponent, sot many more will care. Most don't even know that spring ball is a think, unless you are on this website and part of the 1% that have Gopher Football top of mind most of the year.

Wasn’t there phones allowed at today scrimmage? No videos. No write ups. Nothing on Twitter. Why the silence?

PJ literally mentioned in post-game the bad throw prior to Jackson's game saving catch that should have happened. He was pointing a finger at AK right then.
Yep thanks guys. I was hoping for a AK roast and we got one. How else can we show our support for a new QB without tearing apart the old guy. I’ll be here next year appreciating what Brosmer accomplished while you guys rip him apart.

All of our pro teams have to leave town and we would need to win some national championships.
And the metro area’s average IQ would have to drop 20 points. And the Gophs wound have to miss a bowl game for six consecutive years, and have pending payout to former coaches of $50M. That should about do it.

I for one am glad we have shied away from promoting the program through a spring game like this. Creates too much excitement and provides a way to expose young kids to Gophers' Football without a significant expense. We certainly don't want that.

Different coach, different philosophy about including the fans.

Johnson will be the center. Carroll is at RG with Lewis and maybe Daniels at RT. Nelson got moved to guard. Eastern is the middle guard with Logan-Redding at DT.

Can both not be done? Is it ok to be happy for the plays he made but criticize the ones he didn't make? That is what I try to do...

based on some tweets from Ryan Burns and a Marcus Fuller writeup in the STrib this is what I gleaned:

--sounds like a lot of players are sitting out with injuries or saw limited duty
--WR's dropped a lot of passes early, but did better later on. Fuller said PJ was talking to Elijah Spencer after a couple of drops. Kenric Lanier and Kristen Hoskins had early drops but did better later on. Fleck said QB's also have to be better at throwing into tighter windows.
--sounds like Nuke Hayes is looking the best of the WR crop (at least the ones on the field). Justin Walley among those mentioning Hayes.
--Sieh Bangura has been impressive, also FR TE Pierce Walsh
--Fleck would not say what positions they might be looking at in the portal. said it depends on whether the Gophers lose any players to the portal.

Uh, no.

No, I have seen (and enjoyed) good line coaches. He doesn’t qualify. If you knew anything about offensive line play, you would agree.
Yes, a know-nothing message board dipshit knows more about OL coaching than a guy who has been paid millions of dollars to coach the position and has put multiple players in the NFL. Get a fucking clue.

More than 20 years ago, when I was still harboring dreams of teaching and coaching at the high school level, I was finishing my teaching licensure and took a football coaching course at Northern State University. At the time, I thought I knew a fair amount about football. The course was taught by the OL coach at Northern. He diagrammed some (as he called them) "basic" OL schemes, and I comprehended maybe 15-20% of what he was saying. It was so far over my head that he may as well have been teaching us hieroglyphics.

And this was at a college football wasteland, this guy probably getting paid $50K to coach the OL for a Division II team who usually sucks - I think Northern may have still been NAIA at the time.

Compared to that guy, Brian Callahan is a god, and compared to you, this guy is a god. The totality of your accumulated OL knowledge could fit in a thimble, and that's being kind. That is why Callahan draws a high-six-figure salary to coach the OL, and why you're a know-nothing anonymous poster on a sports-themed message board.
