***OFFICIAL OHIO STATE AT MINNESOTA IN-BATTLE THREAD!!!***

Look at the roster. It is like a new startup.

I remember watching a presentation where they showed the stock price of a startup before it took off in value. The company was Ford. Then they asked, is Tesla next? I don't think it had made a profit yet at that point.

I am sorry you expect more from the freshman Christie, Payne the man sophomore, my fav, startups take awhile.

If I were you I wouldn't try to make a living picking stocks in startup sectors. Stick to establishes blue chip stocks you would know best like Sears.
That was sarcasm, see my post 379,

The statement I responded to was your "He still hasn't proven anything yet"
Everything there that I listed was something he has proven. Is he perfect in any of them? No
Does he have room to grow and improve with them? Absolutely.

Yes, he needs to take the next step and get them into the top part of the conference, to the NCAA tourney (which by the way, the season is not over and we still have an outside shot to make it) and improve his overall and BIG Record. But to say he hasn't proven anything is completely disingenuous, especially coming from the one who started the disaster thread with basically a lot of the things I mentioned in my post you responded to.

It's not disingenuous at all. What's Ben's best win to date?

The only thing Ben has proven is that the's done the bare minimum in year 3 to keep his job for another year. He's done nothing to prove he's a good B1G basketball head coach yet.

Why would anyone believe a moron who said Ben would be fired during his first season, then it was after his first season, then it was during his second season, then it was before his third season?

There are a few dumb people around here. You are clawing and scratching to be recognized as the dumbest.

I never once said Ben was going to be fired during his first season. You're the queen of making stuff up on here.

Keep moving those goalposts or since this is the basketball board, keep moving the hoop.

What am I moving? What's Ben's best win to date? You're the one who can't answer my questions.

If he's a proven good coach as you and others have said, you should be able to point to all of the success and quality wins he has. Especially compared to the last coach that was fired.

Not answering because you're not being honest with yourself.
You stated he hasn't proven anything. I went and pointed out numerous things that he has proven. Your response: He hasn't made the NCAA and what's his best win.
You started the disaster thread by saying he couldn't construct a roster nor knew how to coach. Both of those things he's proven you wrong this year. But, you have now moved on to he hasn't made the NCAA tournament and what's his best win. You'll keep moving them with every success that he has.
You are correct and I agree, that hiring him as a first time HC for this job was not the right move, but that's not on him.

How did this thread about this dynamite game turn into a bear down of the Gophers.

Go through the lineup. What's not to like for where they are at. Transfer portal pickup in the lineup are performing. CBJ has brought in fine local talent colong along.

I think Michigan State is probably the best win.

Last night was the first game this season where only 7 players seen the court. Ben has played at least 9 in every other contest this year except for Maine. Only 8 seen the court against the Black Bears. Braeden was out at the time and it was the last non conference.

god, you’re a miserable prick

This is really getting tiring isn’t it? At what point do you just enjoy what’s happening and move on? If things go off the rails again, then you can say whatever you want.

I am having so much fun watching this team right now. It’s a shame this board is still littered with this constant shit.

The biggest weakness last season was guard and especially point guard. CBJ got it done.

HAWKINS HAD A MONSTER GAME!

24 points. 7 assists. A high motor. I so enjoyed the game.

But a few dingalings can't stop playing with their dingalings, meaning mental mind dingalinging.

All hail Hawkins! How did this thread turn into something other than this BIG performance?

I think some people need to step aside. It is getting old.

Constructing a mediocre B1G roster does not make him a good coach or good at roster construction. Being better than historically bad does not make him a good coach.

It will take years, if he lasts that long, before he's a proven good coach. As of today, he's still a bad B1G coach by nearly every metric. It's ok to admit that and still think he can become a good coach someday.

GopherWeatherDingaling can't stop his mental dingalinging.

Did you see the movie Slap Shot where the GM talks about a player who couldn't stop playing with himself, kept getting sent to the box.

Fact: Hawkins with 24 points. 7 assists. A high motor. A key roster piece at the biggest weakness last season. Boom!

GopherWeatherDingaling: "Mediocre"

Fact: Payne airborne for the picturesque dunk, 15 points, 4 rebounds, body flies as he hits the basket on another one. Oh, and he had a sweet Rutgers game too. Please see his stats in some other games too.

GopherWeather-I-can't-Stop-Spanking-the-Mental-Monkey: "Mediocre roster"

Garcia: Really good. Who got him?

GopherWeatherDingaling: "Mediocre roster"

Fox: Pictures say a thousand words.

Just can't stop the mental dingalinging. And it will go on and on.

Clem went to the sweet 16 in year 3
Yes he did. They also snuck into the tournament as an11 seed and beat Kansas State, and after an upset of sienna over I think it was Stanford. We got lucky to beat sienna and make it to the sweet 16. Then the following season they bring everyone back and make a deep run in the tournament. Kind of reminds me of the direction this team is going. Finish strong and hope for a little luck

GO GOPHERS

Hoop moving again. Now he can't prove anything for years.
He's a good coach and has shown that this year.

What are your qualifications to say it’s a mediocre roster?

Did you play HS basketball? College basketball? Coach either?

Or are these simply the musing of your mind?

What is the specific origin of your hoops acumen?

Waiting breathlessly for your reply 😃

They likely won't make the NCAA tournament, and still have work to do to make the NIT.

They're right in the middle of the standings in a down, and mediocre B1G.

How is that not mediocre?

Perhaps this has already been addressed but the team has progressed this year mostly due to CBJ's change in strategy. His rotation is now down to his seven best and most defensive minded players. The minutes distribution within the seven players is keeping the players reasonably fresh. The strategy should continue to work as long as nobody gets hurt (Garcia's in game injury cost the Iowa game) and the team avoids foul trouble. The post season consequence is the players outside of the rotation (e.g. JOJ, Betts) will likely leave.
But, as the team improves, it potentially looks more attractive to transfers in who want to play in the Big Ten and win.

How many guys like a Hawkins (from Howard) are out there in mid (and low!) major leagues, who can come in and be such a spark?

The jury convenes every day. It is a never ending process to evaluate players, teams, and coaches.

As of today, the jury is very favorably disposed to the idea that Johnson is proving to be a good head coach at the University of Minnesota. He has taken a shambles and turned it into a competitive team trending upward late in the season.

Jurors understand progress.
Notice I mentioned his recruiting ability and not his HC ability. Careful, jurors understand reading comprehension as well.

I don't disagree with your first 2 sentences.

But an honest question. ...

At this moment in time, when you watch the Gophers play, do you really think they're a mediocre team? Not what they looked like at the beginning of the season, or even a month ago. Right now.

What I see "right now" is a NCAA Tournament-caliber talented team with 4 serious "dudes" (Garcia, Payne, Hawkins, Christie) that in all likelihood will fall short of the NCAA tourney because so much damage was done early in the season (historically crappy non-conference schedule + losing to the only 2 "decent" opponents on it).

These kinds of teams exist most every season, unfortunately, the Gophers are one this season. I'd argue they'd have a better chance to advance in the NCAA than at least 2 of the Big Ten teams likely to make the tournament. (Note: I am not stating a case for the Gophers' resume, only their talent & how they're playing now)

Apparently you didn’t answer the above questions because you’ve never participated in any of them, which is fine (many haven’t), I was wondering where such certitude emanates from.

For this part I commend your honesty.

The season isn’t over yet, is it???

This is called incomplete data and making assumptions until all the data has been collected, is not a valid practice in my research experience; it can show a trend line, of course.

They're right in the middle of the standings in a down, and mediocre B1G.
Mediocre based on what data?

Regardless, this is a non sequitur, as everybody is playing under the same conditions and the results of it are being measured and tallied. Short version: it is what it is. Some times you get two real scoops of ice cream at the parlor and sometimes it’s only 1,5.

How is that not mediocre?

It’s obvious that you’re nervous that you 💩the bed with your Disaster Thread and are going to be wrong and look foolish; your propensity for coming in on prior events and commenting on them, that you saw this coming all the time, as you’re an expert on it caught up with you.

So, you’re deathly afraid after, “ I’m quitting college football”thread, until it is corrected, because you’re running out of places to post.

I made an ass of myself yesterday with @howeda7 and apologized for it; to his credit, he handled it like a gentleman and wasn’t really harsh on me. I woke up fine today, and hopefully my dumb ass learned something.

You could get out of this so easily by saying something along the lines, “I’m a weatherman, I get paid to be wrong.” We'd all laugh, you’d get some residual 💩 and just like storm clouds, it will pass.

Digging deeper never fixes things. Admitting you’re wrong isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength.

Go Gophers and go shuck some 🌽 on Sunday.

Yes I do. And I don't disagree with much of what you wrote. They can compete with anyone. But they can also lose to anyone. They have yet to beat anyone better than a bubble team this year. It was still only 2 weeks ago they gave up a 20 point lead and lost to another mediocre Iowa team.

This is exactly what we saw under Pitino. A competitive team with some talent, but averaged out to be mediocre over the entire season. Except Pitino's teams would beat teams that are ranked/better than anyone this years team has beaten so far.

Who's digging deeper? That's what you and the other 'BJ is already a proven good coach' crowd is doing. You're the ones constantly running victory laps using 'incomplete data'.

As I've said several times now, Ben has earned another year. He was coaching for his job this year, and he'll be coaching for it again next year. If they miss the NCAA tournament this year (99% chance this happens) and next year, he will be fired. If he makes it, he will keep his job and I won't have any problem with that.

Why can't you and the others admit or understand that?
