How dare you short change us like that!?

There will be a lot of swing games like this and Michigan this year. 2 more next week agains Indiana and Iowa.

The season will be defined by winning or losing a bunch of close games. Huge to get two on the good side this week.
Learn to win the close ones and build that confidence.

There appears to be no panicking either😃

Hawkins playing at a high level.

When the offensive goes stagnant he can breakdown his defender and get his teammates easy buckets.
If Hawk plays the first half like he did the second, we win by 15!!! Go Gophers

Amazingly, the Gophers end up outshooting Maryland 41% to 38%. Rebounds ended up about even. And despite the ugly number on the box score, we make 6 clutch free throws in the final :25 seconds.

A couple of other numbers that were interesting. Offensive rebounds, relative to 2nd chance points. One would expect each offensive rebound to be worth at least a point. Maryland had 12 offensive boards worth only 8 points. The Gophers actually had more offensive rebounds (13), but only cashed in 4 points.

Turnovers: The expectation is that each turnover is worth a point. Maryland with 17 turnovers. Gophers scored 15 from that. Terrapins were much better at cashing in on Gopher turnovers. 10 TO cost Minnesota 17 points.

Nice comeback win. Actually, considering that 10 minute stretch in the first half, it was a GREAT comeback win! Good to see Payne come alive in 2nd half. Garcia got some big points at the end of the game. Although he got to the line a lot, I thought we did a nice job on Young. Prior to his last 2 shots, he was just 3-15 from the field with only 1 three point make.

Hawkins is playing at an All-Big Ten level right now.

Horrible shooting in the first half, Mitchell and Garcia were both really off offensively and yet they still found a way to battle back and get the W. Has to be a huge confidence booster for the team knowing that even when their top offensive players have off nights they can still win the game.

Major bummer still that Payne is so bad from the line. That is going to keep him off the court late in games. Carrington and Garcia though came up clutch from the line late.

Fox made an impact in limited minutes as he was all over the court.

This is fun.....this team is fun.....here's hoping they can keep on stacking up the wins.

They said during the game that CBJ said he's now dribbling with a purpose and changing pace, slowing down when needed. Another advantage of a weaker nonconference is being able to implement a bit of a learning curve for him and it's paying off. Possibly why some of those games were a bit closer than they could've been

Good win boys! Didn't think it was happening after watching that first 15 minutes.

Poorly officiated game. Most notable was the late obvious basket interference missed. How do 3 guys miss that? And then the ridiculous explanation given to the announcers. Who's that short official who always seems to hose the Gophers? He was the guy who called a horrendous last second call vs. NE on Coffey- damn near cost us a NCAA berth.

0-2 from JOJ , 0-3 from Payne on only 18 total attempts, but yes, it needs to get better.
somehow someway Payne has to figure this out. I am sure they work on it all the time and he probably hits them at a decent clip in practice but in the game he is a mess. He can be a major difference maker but if he has to be on the bench late it close games it really limits his value and will hurt his pro prospects as well when the time comes.

Parker canned a couple, so evened things out a little in that regard. Think Payne will get better on them.
