Brosmer was identical or better than Drake in almost every meaningful QB stat and isn't anywhere close to an NFL starting caliber QB. Drake looked great for a freshman but he needs to get a lot better to get drafted in the first few rounds and it seems more likely to take 2-3 years than 1.
If...
Wasn't there a lot of talk from Arkansas fans about Drake Lindsey transferring early in the off-season before he shut it down? It sounds like his family also stopped donating to Arkansas within the past year or two, right when money became more important to college sports than ever before.
The fake ID is a bigger deal than the underage drinking. Neither are among the worst things college athletes have done but both are much worse than the Demry Croft door incident. It's also worse as the leader of the offense who is supposed to set an example for the team on and off the field...
Fleck's made a big deal about the culture and the expectations he holds the team to off the field. That makes it harder to brush it under the rug and give him a meaningless punishment. If you make him run a couple of extra laps and he starts the first game next season it's hard to keep selling...
I guess I'm lumping in other disruptions where they still played the game but it was closed to the public, had limited attendance, or moved it to a weekday.
In 9 years, 2017 was the only Saturday traditional spring game fully open to the public. 2018 was fully open but held on a weeknight due...
If football is running at a $54 million profit and athletics in total is running at a $2 million profit, that means football is subsidizing over $50 million in losses from the other sports.
Lack of money shouldn't be an excuse for not having a good enough coaching staff or roster to compete...
Chernoff's page says he "oversees all off-field aspects of the Minnesota football program" which implies he manages salaries and contracts.
If he's paid $400k a year which is top 25 in CFB, I would hope he's managing more than facilities and support staff.
The Vikings OL has been poor and held back the Vikings for 5+ years across many different QBs. Max wouldn't look good in the NFL in any setting but he would certainly look better with time to throw, although if the OL was better maybe JJ doesn't get hurt and Max never plays.
He looked really good some games but also had a bunch of games where he didn't do much - 6 of 13 games with 15 or fewer receiving yards. If he can become more consistent he could be a big contributor.
Both are huge to have coming back next year. The challenge will be having enough depth at DB - all it takes is 1 guy out of 4-5 in the secondary to not be good enough and the offense will pick on him all day. In the Northwestern game and the 3 blowout losses, it felt like there were 1 or 2 DBs...
And if you hire someone who has more than a year of experience coaching a MAC team that was terrible at the position, you'll have a good idea of how good of a coach they are.
If he can coach RBs to play like him then it's a home run hire but there are a lot of good players who make bad coaches and bad players who make good coaches.
