    Frank Mitchell commits

One variable I have not seen yet mentioned, was Pharrell Payne’s back injury. Every time he landed hard I cringed and held my breath until he was able to come back in the game again. Seems like we are trading a higher potential and rim protection, for better rebounding and a healthier player.

Pharrel Payne visiting Indiana this week.

A good test case of this is the G-league. In theory, some of the best college players which should make for an entertaining product. The Iowa Wolves averaged 4,148/game last year (2022-2023), which was a franchise record (and they were 2nd in the G-league). The South Bay Lakers were averaged...

Silence from Hawkins and Christie is deafening!

I have a bit of very cautious optimism that we have not seen any recent offers to portal transfer guards (after it seemed like we had a lot in mid March). Seems like our focus is on a post right now to replace Payne as he is confirmed transferring. Hopefully this means Ben has reason to think...

    Kris K in the portal

Keinys was a late commit (June 20th) when we had an open scholarship. I have no problem taking a low % swing that a complete unknown from overseas may pan out. It appears it did not work out. Frankly I'm glad we are done with this after one year instead of a Gaston Diedhiou situation...

    Returning Playas for 2024-25

I listened to that Mike Grimm podcast last week where he interviewed Ryan James. Incredibly, they said that a major reason Ben Johnson missed on all those in state recruits this year was we only had 2 scholarships to give, and JOJ/Betts were already clogging up the PF spot. When I heard it I...

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

Payne left because he is not an NBA prospect and can make money now. Christie might leave because he is an NBA prospect and can make money now. Carrington won't get NIL, but got playing time. JOJ won't get NIL, but left so he can get playing time. Henley left a losing program where he was a...

Payne in portal (UPDATED: Payne commits to Texas A&M)

Keep NIL, but reinstitute the 1 year sit out if you transfer. No free transfers. If the program really wants you they will pay you to sit. And if you really want to transfer to a different institution to complete your education, you should be thrilled to have an extra year of study on full...

    Joshua Ola-Joseph Enters Transfer Portal

I agree on the whole with your point. But just wanted to note his FT% actually went down this year, from 48.6% to 47.2%. He did finish the season on a hot streak, shooting 77% in March (17/22). I liked his little drive he started doing from the free throw line. Really surprised some guys. If...

College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

The priority guys Ben brings in usually see similar or increased minutes at Minnesota, even when going up a level. Elijah Hawkins went from 29.6 at Howard to 33.3 Talon Cooper went from 33.9 at Morehead State to 36.7 here (and back to 33.7 at South Carolina) Mike Mitchell dropped from 33.6 on...

College Basketball Transfer Portal Thread - 2024

70% FT shooter, not much of a rim protector at .3 blocks per game. Has a little bit of range, making 12/33 3PT on the year (36%).

    Official March Madness Thread

Hah! I remember thinking we maybe cooled on him. He visited in June of 2021, but then he didn't commit to Yale until the day he received an offer in April 2022. Also had offers at some point from Harvard, Penn, and Rice so clearly he is interested in academics. I commented at the time that his...

Danny Wolf from Yale just fouled out. He came here on a visit in 2021. Averaged 14 points/10 rebounds/2.5 assists as a sophomore.

All Things Grayson Grove Recruitment Thread (Class of 2024, Alexandria, MN; 6-8, 190lb; Gophers Commit!

I know everybody hates on the redshirt these days because of the transfer portal. But I wonder if Groves would decide to redshirt to focus on remaking his body. Not sure Ben has the luxury of doing that unfortunately. I just read an article about Will Tschetter redshirting at Michigan and his...

I just looked up his stats...he has shot 335 field goals this year. 327 of those are 3 pointers

2023-2024 College Basketball Other Games Thread

Looks like they play a rotation of 6 guys. Robbie Avila, their 6'10" 240 lb center attempts 4 threes per game, and is 40.5% from 3PT (and 82% FT!). He is also their 2nd leading passer, with 3.8 assists per game. I pulled up a quick highlight reel and didn't see any dunks on it, just lots of...
