    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

Call me naive, but I got the sense the Grady Winters injury was more about him preserving a year of eligibility than it was a season ending injury. The way he’s talked about on here it sounds like we are taking a paraplegic and hoping he can recover somehow. He mentioned in that one podcast...

    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

I think we will see flashes of their scoring prowess next year, and then when Durkin/JCJ/Evans move on they will be our leading scorers. I’m really excited to see Nolen Anderson develop too. Lets get this season started!

    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

It’s exciting to think we have 3 possible guys who could be starting. Maybe even add Nolan Groves to that list. I agree that Grady and Palmer seem like the guys with the highest ceiling offensively. Love Durkin but so far he hasn’t really shown an ability to grow his game much besides being a...

    Current Roster, Positions, Depth

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kordel starts but due to conditioning/foul trouble only plays 15-20 minutes per game. Grove and Mpoyi, maybe a little JCJ small ball filling in the rest of the game.

    Malachi Palmer commits

I will note that his transfer to Villanova was him following Kevin Willard there from Maryland. Willard described him as an elite on-ball defender and a natural scorer. In that interview he mentioned that he now takes more pride and interest in defense/transition than offense.

    Malachi Palmer commits

Honestly this is a fair bit better than I expected at this point. Pedigree with being a top 150 recruit, played at Maryland and Villanova, and a guard with some size/maybe more of a wing. Saw some minutes in the Big East tournament and NCAA tournament. Nice to have another upperclassman. I...

Also FT%. I mentioned this in the other thread, but he was a 46% FT shooter last year and I'm sure he would have raised that closer to his previous year 72%...but I'm really glad to have Kyan Evans who shot 85% his breakout year under Niko. Fun fact: Cade Tyson shot 86%, 86%, 56%, 82% FT for...

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

In that first handful of games before both Vaihola and Willis got hurt, we had solid bench production. Durkin and Reynolds were coming off the bench, playing 20-25 minutes per game. Reynolds actually hit double figures 3 times in those first 7 games before he became a starter. And while he was...

RandBall: As transfer portals close, Gophers basketball is thriving

Honest question, have you been seeing people say he is a Tyson replacement? I have not gotten that impression from the board. I like him as a Willis replacement, who is a better scheme fit for Niko. I am hoping his year here looks similar to sophomore year at CSU: 11 pts, 3 ast, highly efficient...

Did he post a commitment or something? I remember this guy was someone Ben Johnson was pursuing for his last year when he was transferring from Manhattan.

    Kai Shinholster back

I've assembled a team of practice squad level freshmen and disappointing transfers who played for Niko at some point in their careers, to pit against 60's Guy's all star team of his choice. CSU Freshman PG Kyan Evans - 8 mpg, 1.7 pts CU Freshman Nique Clifford - 4 mpg, 1.0 pt CSU Freshman John...

I don't think he will thrive there, but he might look something like this:

    Kai Shinholster back

It was the Oregon game and it came at a pivotal point in the 2nd half (check out that closeout from Biddle and help D from #10). I yelled at the TV when it happened. I was really hoping he could build on that confidence but it seemed he faded a bit after that. Kyan Evans was a guy who averaged...

    Malick Kordel Commits

Also, when I first saw this guy’s name, I thought “sounds like a character from a fantasy novel.” Well, I’m reading the Malazan series right now and sure enough there is a Mallick Rel in there 🤣

I think this is the most likely explanation...I doubt Niko is playing 4D chess with this twitter post.

I really like the pickup. Both Vaihola and Grove (and JCJ when he played C) were undersized, so it's nice to have a guy to bang with the other bigs. I watched an interview, and he mentioned how helpful it was to practice against the other Michigan posts. He also mentioned that he always fouled...

    Gopher-centric Portal Short List

His single biggest hit last year was rehabilitating Tyson. I’m sure part of it is just who is available /interested…but since we are retaining a core of JCJ/Asuma/Durkin, all who have 3 years of experience and fit his system…I love that we are going for some more rehab projects with high...

    Gopher-centric Portal Short List

I would be happy to have a shooting big. I am curious overall what Niko's philosophy is on big men. At CSU he had undersized guys like Rashaan Mbemba (6'7" 250) and David Roddy (6'5" 255). I noticed that when he started at CSU he inherited Nico Carvacho (6'11" 245 lbs) and he was their leading...

    Gopher-centric Portal Short List

Yeah I actually loved what I saw from Grove. I wonder if his emergence is part of the reason we moved on from Vaihola, after hearing most of the year that the plan was for him to return. Good passer, screener, as you mentioned I was impressed with how well he finished around the basket off a...
