Mason says it's "mind boggling" why Eslinger, Spaeth and TC don't have their jerseys retired at The U

You can't retire numbers except in very rare cases, because you need those uniform numbers. It's totally okay to put the player's name and number in a ring of fame but still use the number because you need to. And yes, guys like Esslinger should be honored.

With schools with classes that small, I'd think it could fluctuate so much from year to year. I mean, there are teams like Minneota that are always super good, but I'd imagine consistency is an issue. Not every small school has a Koi Perich come along.

Most recently yes, and I have no time for that nonsense. But to be fair, the argument had been made prior to the unrest a few years back, that Minneapolis not being a traditional college town hindered recruiting. That being the proverbial big fish in the small pond (small pond being markets like...

I tend to agree. We don't like how it's changed the traditional workings of a game we love, but legally, it was the right thing to do.

The 700 probably includes flag football kids going all the way down to 2nd grade, but still, that's a lot.

I believe it. And from what I've heard, this class (2030) at Wayzata is a concern because of what I said earlier - the overall size of the kids is unusually small. Out of curiosity, did your team play at 5, in the game where the Wayzata kid broke his leg in two places, or the 8 pm game, in...

This is what I tell people when they ask why the Gophers don't have the support of some other teams. It's not just because the school is in a big city and not a college town, but overall, people have so many other options in a major metro - not just sports, but entertainment as a whole. Look at...

Depends on the town and the recruit. I used to think that people would rather play in a traditional college town and being in the city hurt the U. I don't think that anymore. Washington is in Seattle, and they were national runner up a few years back. And Columbus is the largest city in Ohio FWIW.

Norwest was the main partner in the WF tranaction, but they kept the Wells name and San Francisco HQ because they were iconic. Still have big operations here and in Iowa.

But the economy/population of Ohio is like double that of Minnesota and tOSU is their flagship school. Yes, they have other D1 schools, but other than Cincinnati, they're MAC schools with middling support.

It's not Plymouth vs. Maple Grove. City boundaries have nothing to do with it. It's school district boundaries that don't follow city lines. Plymouth is split between the Wayzata, Osseo and Robbinsdale districts. Minnetonka is split between Minnetonka, Wayzata and Hopkins. A home on the Wayzata...
