All Things 2025 Playoffs and Bowl Thread

Agree. Would have been nice to play a ranked team in a bowl, for only the 5th time in Gopher history. If I have my math right, 22 of the Gophers 26 bowl opponents were unranked on the day of the game.

    Gopher Football All Time Team

Agree 100%. Giel is best back in Gopher history. If Smith wasn’t a somewhat fluke Heisman winner (he didn’t win the BIG MVP and was the 3rd leading rusher on his own team), Giel would get his just due.

    Following Gopher's Losses

Like your thought about beating USC at home, which is doable. USC is really athletic, a good defensive team, but a poor offensive team, especially in the half court (bottom 3 in the BIG in offensive efficiency stats). Nebraska lost track of USC's 1 good 3-pt shooter for 3 3s early in the second...

    B1G Game 2: Gophers visit Indiana 12-29-25

Smothered a undermanned IU team. Great defensive and rebounding effort.

    Minnesota 2025-2026

Coach P has mastered the NET with efficient blowout victories against Quad 3-4 teams. The RPI, which the NET replaced, ranks the Gophers # 99. The Gophers have yet to beat a NET Quad 1-2 team, though Marquette has bounced back and forth from a Quad 2-3 victory and could easily end up a Quad 2...

    Following Gopher's Losses

FWIW, Alabama was ranked #24 in coaches poll last week. Might move to 22-23 later today [edit - moved down to 25]. Bama is currently a Quad 1 loss, but could slide to a Quad 2 loss depending on how SEC play goes for Bama. KU is solidly a Quad 2 loss, with outside chance of becoming a Quad 1...

Game 3: Gophers host Marquette (11-11-25)

So your view is that there was a power 6 before the PAC 12 imploded. Don’t think so. Agree to disagree on this.

Game 3: Gophers host Marquette (11-11-25)

FWIW, the P-5 in WBB was the BIG, SEC, ACC, BIG 12 and PAC 12. With the demise of the PAC 12, thought it went to the P4. Perhaps I’m wrong, but don’t think the Big East somehow became a power 5 league. It’s likely a 2-bid NCAA tournament league. It’s current 2nd best team is Villanova, a...

Game 12: Gophers visit Drake 12-21-25

Agree with this. Mara with back-to-back games at or above 50% from the field, a good sign and a rarity for her career. Hope its a harbinger of things to come.

All Things 2025/26 College Football Transfer Portal Thread

The Big Ten mandated 4-year scholarships starting in 2014. Don’t know if/when this changed or the current practice. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/big-ten-becomes-1st-major-conference-to-guarantee-scholarships/

Game 11: Gophers host Wyoming 12-14-26

You're certainly right that other teams schedule like the Gophers, both last year when the non-conference schedule was pathetic, and this year when it is middling, though much improved from last year. But it's tough to make either approach (pathetic or middling) work if your goals are something...

Game 11: Gophers host Wyoming 12-14-26

Then the Coach P Gophers are the team for you. Coach P has mastered the NET rankings by slaughtering weak teams, with the Gophers having the lowest average NET wins in the conference, meaning the teams that the Gophers have beaten have the lowest average NET rating: 12/15/2025 Rankings AP...

    Gophers Non-Conference schedule thoughts

Was happy to see Drake on the schedule this year, but would have preferred last year when Drake was solid. Drake is a good mid-major program than can beat you some years. But this year is not one of those years. Drake is 1-7, about to be 1-8 after falling behind 34-14 to St. Thomas in St...

    Would you accept a Michigan-level scandal/mess...

Can you identify the other schools that have engaged in systematic in-person scouting like Michigan? Perhaps I’m wrong, but I think your take that what Michigan did happens all the time is way off base.
