Sid did say it, but I think he's probably the only one who actually believed it. Usually when I see that quote, it's tongue-in-cheek and a friendly jab at Sid.
I usually agree with you but I think equating a die hard fan who hopes local stars show loyalty to the U with someone from "those red neck, low educated, areas of some of the southern states" is a little harsh. Some kids want to experience something new, others want to stay close to their...
So accepting better pay is mercenary? The old days of someone picking the local school based on loyalty only are long gone. While I wish the local stars would all stay home, it's hard to criticize them for accepting more money to go to a more established program.
I assume there is a limit to how many coaches you can have at a time. If so, to do what you suggest, you'd have to fire at least two of the current coaches. Not much of a reward for their efforts in getting the Gophers to where they are now. It wasn't that long ago that hiring a coach or...
Plus, McCarville set a mean pick. The ears of that poor Boilermaker are probably still ringing. (I remember it as being against Purdue, but I could be wrong. In any event, it looked like she ran into a brick wall.)
Merkle was on a lousy team so she was able pad her stats. McCarville shared the spotlight with Whalen. McCarville was a superb passer and solid rebounder. I'd take her over Merkle any day.
I never meant to imply that Harmon is too small. There have been many great players her size. I'm just saying that comparing her to the No. 2 pick in the draft is a little premature.
Coming off a successful season, I have to believe we can attract someone better than Sanders. While she may have been a good defender and ball handler, she provided absolutely nothing on offense. Going four on five on offensively is not the answer.
It's amazing what that guy can do, all at the same time: bomb Iran, ignore the Constitution, use the DOJ to go after his enemies, cut health care, straighten out college athletics, and play golf. He's an inspiration to us all!
