The buck stops at the top. They've been inept at finding the right people to man those positions. It remains to be seen whether they've made good hires this time around, but Kwesi hasn't been able to draft for shit so far.
They need to rethink the whole thing. Playing out multiple series in a row while it's getting colder and darker feels like fiddling while Rome is freezing. I've proposed league championship series that are more like the College World Series: multiple teams at one (warm-weather) site in some kind...
MLB is already way past that point, and they still continue to expand it. I've been curious enough about the outcomes of the games to check their progress but certainly not to watch them. Baseball playoffs used to be an event with a huge national audience. I hardly know anyone who cares much...
As long as you have fun and enjoy the challenge!
To Ope's post, I've been thinking of trying to start up a cribbage league this winter. Tournaments are fun in their own way, but it would be even more fun to have it be social among people who all know each other, and we could mix and match partners.
It occurs to me that, when you take a step back, this is a classic labor/ownership struggle. The owners and the league heierarchy think that they ARE the game and the players are just the equipment. (Yes, I borrowed that from North Dallas Forty.) Well, let the owners lace up their shoes and see...
This is jaw dropping. Can a player get the death penalty? Could she actually be put to death?? Seriously, heaven knows what fallout there is from this. If she's merely relating actual conversations that took place, is that punishable in league rules?
This gives you an idea of a Charley Crockett performance. If I had all kinds of time and opportunity, I'm not sure I wouldn't be traveling around the country attending multiple of his shows.
This is a fallacy. In any profession, any walk of life, you have to keep working on and drilling the fundamentals or they will erode. Not to mention, the object in any profession is lifelong learning. The players should continually add to their capabilities, and coaching is a major part of that.
On one hand, this is an organizational failure. On the other hand, Rocco has so many warts. The Twins have been weak in so many things, not the least of which are key fundamentals. They gave him plenty of time to develop, and he never did. It wasn't going to happen. For their next hire, I hope...
