Expectations are unrealistic if they include beating Wisconsin. If that is an unrealistic expectation you have concluded the ceiling under Jerry Kill has been reached. If that is the case Kill is neither under appreciated or underpaid.
You don't reimburse an upper level employee soley on what they've concretely accomplished- you also take what they've accomplished in relationship to their peers as well as their potential into consideration.
If you look at coaching hirings in the power 4 conferences ( sorry, I don't consider the ACC a power football conference- just personal opinion) there have been 156 hirings since the end of the 1991 season. 15 of those coaches are recent hirees with less than 3 years on the job. Of the other 141, only 27 were able to win at least 50% of conference games in their third year and 5 conference games in year 4. Of those 27, 14 were hired into already winning programs.
How can u not want to reward what he's accomplished and be optimistic about the squads potential?
