Championship Weekend: Discussion Thread

Stave shouldn't have cut his luxurious locks. Should have listened to Sampson.

Looking forward to the 8 team playoff.

Have to go there.

Who would it be this year:
5 conference champs - automatic
TCU or Baylor - which ever is not conference champ.

That's 6.............give me 2 more

There will always be the argument that "someone" got screwed. Doesn't matter if its 2, 4, 8 or 64.

I think it will get trickier if and when it's expanded to 8 teams. Then you start looking at 2-loss teams and I would think that would make it a lot tougher to discern who the best eight teams are.

Plleeeease make it 59-0. My grapes aren't sour enough yet.

Doesn't the chart say to go for 2 when you are up by 58?

I think Meyer misread the card. I think it says "go for 2" at that point.

My wife just said, "Doesn't the chart say to go for 2 to get the point total to 60?"

I'd rather there be controversy over the 8th best team than the 4th best team though. There are two very good 1-loss teams who will be left out this year.

True, but once you go to 8, you can tell every team in the big 5 conferences they had their chance. Win your conference.

When you get to 16 you're talking about teams that really don't have a chance to win it imo.

Saw some graphic during the game that said OSU has 1 win vs. a top 40 FPI team. I thought, WTF? So I looked it up. The gophers are 43 in this index behind some really crap teams. I still think WTF?

This is the type of humiliating ass kicking Ohio State used to lay on Wisconsin every year when I was growing up in Madison. Holy crap, this is something to behold and absolutely savor. All my Badger friends, who couldn't yap enough last week, have been deafeningly quiet tonight.

The moral of the story to me is, the "star" ratings in recruiting don't mean everything, but when you have a good group of 4- and 5-star guys and a coach like Urban Meyer, good things are likely to happen. They totally outclassed the Badgers tonight. That's what athleticism--especially well-coached athleticism--will do. Wisconsin looked like they were playing with ankle weights on.

I have a feeling that after tomorrow, the TCU and Baylor fan base will ALWAYS hate Becky due to them totally rolling over tonight.

Need to go to 8. 4 Major bowls are the quarterfinals. Funny how everytime the NCAA tries to change, BCS, playoff, etc. it blows up in their face

This is karmic justice for selecting a fundamentally flawed playoff model.

Conference champions, period. I don't even want wild cards, but I'm willing to accept them. This is one of those years where nothing is clear cut.

If that were true, why wouldn't they have left MN in the top 25 after a close loss at Wisconsin? I thought we were more deserving of staying in the top 25 this week after being #18 than when we didn't move after the Ohio St. loss.

+1 I could not agree more.

It makes so much sense to have 5 conferences with auto bids, 1 auto bid from highest ranked non power conference champ and 2 wild cards. High seed is home in first round. Wild cards cannot be seeded 1-4.

I think it should be a 6 team playoff. 5 conference champs and 1 wild card (from any conference). Give top 2 teams bye and have the other 4 play, higher seeds host. Gives fans at host schools a chance to not have to have three trips, ensures sellouts. Then do bowls for semis and finals.

I'm thinking it's tOSU, Big XII screwed themselves by having only 10 teams and no conference championship game (they can thank the people in Austin who really control that conference). Oklahoma losing at home to OK State is gonna hurt both Baylor and TCU. Bob Stoops ought to have his agent checking into the Michigan job, I'm sure people in Norman are not very happy with him.

Agree. except have the first two rounds at home sites. championship at the Rose Bowl.

I like your idea on this.

That's been my thought for quite awhile. The best part is every team from the big five conferences has/had a chance to win it on the field.......just win your conference.

I too have toyed with the idea of reserving a spot for non power conference champ and/or independent. Can't forget about the Irish ya know.
