If those 3 plays didn't go all the way back for scores the O would have racked up more yards and their O would have come off the field and had less. Just the way it works sometimes. It is a full team game. Nice job Gophers. You do what you have to do to win. You don't show all your stuff week one. Relax.

420 now... our Defense has a LOT of work to do as well as our Offense. It's like you can't cheer for your team & see the faults it has to some of you people...

If you're satisfied with that type of performance against a team that won 2 games last year & have lost 22 in a row on the road then you might want to put less sugar in your Koolaid...
Kind of like rushing for 600 yards and losing to Michigan? I 'll take wins. A decent win and my biggest worry is the kicker. We will be in a lot of close games and you can't miss PATs.

First game, nice win. Started slow but seemed to get better in all aspects as the game progressed. Nice to see both QBs are athletic and run very well; something Kill seemed to thrive with at his previous jobs. Also nice job of limiting penalties which have plagued Gophers early on in previous years.

Looking ahead into the B1G, Indiana is going to be tough. They are routing Indiana State with 73 pts.

I'm very happy with the Win but I'm not blind...

Were you satisfied with the overall performance honestly? The 7 yard cushions against an inferior team doesn't concern you? The predictable play-calling on Offense didn't bother you? Nelson won't be able to run all game against bigger & faster Defenses in the Big Ten... he'll get hammered...

This is the problem with a lot of people... all they see is the "W" & start drinking the koolaid when we start 3-0 or 4-0 & then rub their heads when we go 1-7 or 2-6 the rest of the way despite some people being realistic about the flaws from the beginning...

Offense was very conservative... Defense was very vanilla...

There is also people on the other end of the spectrum...the people who don't understand that this is the first game, and there will be issues that need to be ironed out. Are there concerns? Absolutely. Is it something to go off the deep end about? I think that's a little premature.

Nobody is going off the deep end but my problem is the people who think there's no room for improvement & anybody criticizing a Win is trolling. This is Year 3... we didn't look like it, sorry...

I guess I haven't seen anyone post that we can't improve or anything like that. Just people who are happy with a win.

i nominate gophersiniowa for hall of fame

You realize Kill and co. coach the guys who made the big plays too??

Check again... I said I'm happy with the win but the defensive cushion is concerning & without hesitation a "fan" says who cares we won...

Offense looked mediocre... Defense gave up a ton of yards... you do realize we played UNLV right? UNLV... let that sink in...

I am right with thailleagle on this one. Getting a win is great but the offense that showed up tonight would not beat a single Big Ten team on our schedule. The WR were non-existent and outside of one long run by Cobb the RB's were very average as well. The QB run is a nice weapon but it is also a good way to get your QB's killed against bigger, faster defenses then the one we played tonight.

Like Gophers in Iowa said, the sky isn't falling and there is plenty of time to work out the kinks. And again most important thing is to get the win. On the good side we we had very few penalties and obvious mental mistakes. The defense and special teams generated some explosive plays. The offense has a long way to go based on tonight and Wells needs to get healthy in a hurry because the secondary needs him.

It's a good thing they let the defense and special teams play too then.

You're the one who said people are saying that so you show me where someone has said there is no room for improvement or this is as good as we'll get.

The offense that played tonight wasn't playing a Big Ten team. I don't get looking at our UNLV performance and acting like I know how that will translate against a different team a month plus from now. You need to figure out how to beat the team across from you. Then you re gameplan for the team you line up against the next week. It probably won't look the same. Unless you thought this team was going to win 9 games this year I don't see the reason to be so disappointed. To me this looks like a team that can hopefully find a way to win when all is not clicking to hopefully be bowl eligible. Not sure how, if you've been following this slow build the U is in the process of, you could expect much more. Of course I am still hoping to go undefeated though.

The TEAM looked like they won. You realize it is a 3 phase, 60 minute game right? And an underdog has won before, thankfully we squeaked this one out as a team by 4 TD's. I will analyze what our offense looks like against B1G teams when we play B1G teams. let that sink in...

I don't know that disappointed is the right word for it. I guess I was hoping to see some signs that the offense is starting to turn the corner much like the defense did last season. And while I agree you can't equate a performance against UNLV to what you are going to see against anyone else, the point is that we are not going to face much weaker defenses then the one we faced tonight and if we are going to struggle to move the ball against a team like this it does not bode well for games a few weeks from now when we will be facing far stiffer competition.

Obviously it is far too early to draw any conclusions as to what the 2013 version of the Gophers is going to look like but it is clear from tonight the offense specifically still has a lot of work to do.

You're the one who said people are saying that so you show me where someone has said there is no room for improvement or this is as good as we'll get.

It's not about that... it's about the whining koolaid reactions when someone does criticize the team...

"I'm glad we won but the Offensive production is concerning."

"STFU you're not a real fan you're a troll!"

The Koolaid is strong...

I don't disagree. I guess it looked how I thought it would.

I can say I didn't expect Nelson to throw under 100 yds. I figured he would be 12-20 for. 150 and a td type range while our oline controlled the line of scrimmage. I figured we would win a game where we controlled the ball and rushed for a minimum 150. And I thought the game would be rather low scoring like a 24-10 type.

You expected what you saw tonight so you're a better football mind then the rest of us. You saw it clearly I guess nice work

Good points - very happy to see explosive scoring from special teams and defense, which reflects well on the coaches and the hard work the players have put in, and Nelson looked good, but the offense would have trouble with most Big Ten teams.

Is it not possible that he would have gotten to 150 yards if he had 3 more possessions? It's just how this game unfolded. He didn't look all B1G, but he didn't lose the game for us... And I'm not a better FB mind than "the rest of us." Just you.
