I just noticed today that Nelson is listed on the roster now at 6'2 215 pounds. Last season he was listed at 6'2 222 pounds. I know it's only 7 pounds, but I'm wondering if the coaches asked him to drop the weight?
 

Don't totally go by weight on the roster. 1) Coaches play the roster weight game all the time; 2) could be a typo (225); 3) student workers usually do the web stuff; 4) could be he dropped a dozen pounds of baby fat and picked up some muscle.

He is still a 19 year old kid, growth-wise.
 


Am I the only one that saw this thread title and was scared news was breaking that Nelson is going the way of the Alipate?

Memo, lean muscle mass weighs less than fat. It could be he is in better shape. Rather than weights, I would like to see the percent of body fat on every player, I know they have it. I am not asking for it to be published.

Memo, you are incorrect, muscle does not weigh less than fat. By volume fat weighs less. So one square inch of muscle weighs more than one square inch of fat. Muscle is more dense and takes up less space. This is why I agree with some of the other poster who question the accuracy of either last years or this years numbers.

Maybe Dr.Don can give us the definitive answer on weight by answering this question "What weighs more? A pound of fat, a pound of muscle, or a pound of feathers."

Memo: if you are talking volume, I think you want to talk in terms of cubic inches, not square inches. :)

As an accompanying physician who was right by Nelson's physician during surgery, I can verify, thru personal observation, that Nelson's weight loss is attributed to one thing...He was circumcised.

I think the term you are looking for is:

Muscle is more dense than fat.
 

"Muscle is more dense than fat."That is exactly what I meant. Now if you have Nelson's time in say 10 yards someone with an engineering background could calculate the force he can create. Something like f=M*A. Those players with a lower center of gravity, or the ability to play low also create leverage.
 




I have never cared one way or the other about putting on weight/muscle at the skill positions.

Some players get worse because of it; others get better.

There's no rule that says a quarterback needs to be an animal in the weight room.

If Phil wants to pull a Mike Singletary and do push up and sit ups, I couldn't care less.

Maybe he weighed in at different time of the day? I weigh, on average, 7 lbs less in the morning than I do the previous evening. Alipate, on the other hand, weighs more every day he wakes up.

7 pounds? That seems ridiculous. Like 2 or 3, yeah, but 7? Do you sleep on a treadmill? LOL
