As for Dave and Richard doing the H.S. bb tourney, the worst broadcasting of a sports event EVER. Lee talks like he's doing a radio broadcast, telling us if a shot misses and if it does, "it's hard off the iron." Coffey repeats any comment Lee makes. He says inane things like, (if the score is tied 51-51) "This is a close game." He offers no insight, merely mimics Lee in stating the obvious. "You can't let that big guy score down low." Really??? They have someone like Trent Tucker available and they watse him on the pre game show. Coffey is the worst color man ever and if Bill Rafferty were dead, he'd be spinning in his grave. Lee is the worst football AND basketball play by play man ever. And Ray Scott IS spinning.
 


Calm down. It's high school basketball. It's not like Bob Costas and Mike Tirico are lining up for the broadcasting gig.
 

Yes, it's just high school, but that tourney could be so much better if they would get better announcers and broadcast the games in HD. Also removing the seats close to the court at Target Center makes it look (on TV) like there isn't much crowd activity/noise.

Completely agree. The broadcast, unnecessary romoval of seats, and court make make it one unpolished event.

I noted this in an earlier thread; such great games and that buffoon Lee doing the commentary. I think Coffey was bad due to a lack of experience.

"Looks like they are really stepping up the defense, Richard"

"Yes, they are really playing touch defense now"

and on and on and on
 

coffey just blabbed these teams are garbage like these teams are playing hard ...blah blah blah. Keven Lynch was WAY better

I agree that Lee treated it as if it were a radio broadcast. Coffey used poor grammar throughout -- not a good model for HS telecaster.

Nobody said it was the end of the world. But why be satisfied with inferior performance just because it's high school???
Lee should not be doing ANY sports. And Coffey is not inexperienced, he's been doing this for a few years now. He'll never get better.
 


I watch both Wisconsin and Minnesota...the Wisconsin production is 10 times better than Minnesota and makes it so much more watchable.
 

This gives me something to think about instead of the head-scratching removal of seats around the floor for the high school tournament. I went to the Target Center last Friday night and spent much of the night thinking about the full scale assault the MSHSL has on its own tournament. Looks like I was actually the lucky one, not having to watch it on TV. Well, when I think more about it... I had to pay $15 to NOT watch it on TV. Screwed... either way.

Great point. They have RUINED the best sporting event in MN. To watch a tourney game and see rows of empty seats is so sad.
 

Does anyone have their per session attendance for Thursday - Saturday? Would be curious to see those numbers.
 

The basketball tournament was actually better when it was at Xcel imo, why can't Chad Hartman call the games with Lynch (both have the time and experience)?

Matvick is nothing to right home about, but Dave Lee is in a class by himself. He's neck and neck with Steve Cannon for worst play by play man in Twin Cities sports history.
 

I think we give Coffey a break, but the Lee thing just reminds me how bad Gopher BBall announcing was when he was our play by play guy.
 

BTW. The title of this post sounds like a Carnac joke setup.
