I just checked out the texas message board and only 14 people were online and not a single post about the tourny. In fact the last post was last week. Either they dont keep up with the board or they just dont care about basketball in texas. seems strange.
 



I couldn't get HornFans.com to come up, so I visited ShaggyBevo.com. Here's a nice thread:

Seriously, are the posters on that board in middle school, or what? It was hard to take the board seriously after reading that thread (and seeing some of the screen names/avatars).
 

hornfans.com was pretty entertaining. Honest people with good sense, unlike catspause. The best part is when they talk about the possibility of playing Duke in the second.

Looks like you are quickly learning the difference between those two message boards. They cater to different demographics... ShaggyBevo is for people who prefer their avatar to have bouncing breasts. Hornfans doesn't allow that sort of thing. They both have their share of knowledgable posters... but you'll typically find the conversations at Hornfans more civil.

Texas Basketball fans, to some degree, are a little spoiled. We aren't UNC or Kansas, but we do have a solid tournament resume in recent years (see below). I think a lot of people know this year's team is a one or two and done... and they are having a hard time appreciating just making it to the tourny. Personally, I'm psyched. This is my favorite time of the year.

04/05 - 1st Round Loss
05/06 - Elite 8
06/07 - 2nd Round Loss

I love how every fanbase uses the same Caddyshack schtick. I mean come on guys...at least be original.

I've noticed the Texas fans haven't said a thing about the tourney on Rivals Mainboard. It's mainly a football recruiting board so there are a lot of Horn's fans. It speaks to what Longhorn in Austin was saying about most people not being too excited about this year.

I for one am looking forward to this game. Texas is a program that I like and it's easy for me to cheer for them. I watched them beat USC from a Longhorn bar in NYC a few years ago and it was probably my favorite sports memory of a non-Minnesota team. That place was crazy!!!
 




Bevo is the name of the mascot. It came from texas A&M when they beat TX 13-0 and snuck in to paint the score on the real longhorn back in the day. Texas changed 13-0 to BEVO.

hey MNSnowman; If Longhorn in Austin takes that bet you shouold start selling bridges in Brooklyn.
 

I started shaggybevo, and yes, shaggy is a little harsher than hornfans, but it's a little more fun. We've banned less people in the last year than they ban in a week. You are all welcome to come over and post.

Bevo was named after a brand of beer, the 13-0 repaint happened after he was already named.

We do have some links with you guys. Your football coach used to coach here, and his son goes here now. So we tend to root for you in football.

Texas players to watch:

A.J. Abrams G 5-11 161 Sr.-3L Round Rock, Texas
Quick but short 3 point specialist. Leads the big 12 in all time 3 pointers. Disappears in many games, but gets hot in a few, including scoring 18 of our last 20 against OU.

34 Dexter Pittman C 6-10 298 Jr.-2L Rosenberg, Texas (Terry)
Has dropped about 100 pounds since getting to campus, which you will hear the announcer mention at least 10 times during the broadcast. If we can get him the ball near the basket he's tough to stop. Still commits many dumb fouls and tires quickly.

1 Gary Johnson F 6-6 233 So.-1L Houston, Texas (Aldine)
5 Damion James G/F 6-7 222 Jr.-2L Nacogdoches, Texas (Nacogdoches)

Our two most athletic players. Both can drive or hit a 15 footer. If they get going our offense can be unstoppable.

Very insightful message board. Highly recommended (if you're IQ is 85 or lower).
 


If you guys can keep it close with 5 mts to go, we're guaranteed to choke it away. AJ will try to take over and start jacking up a bunch of wild 3s at that point.

I was just going to say if you guys can keep it within 10 with a few minutes to go, maybe Abrams will start hitting some 3's and make it interesting.

I had to look up lutefisk. It sounds very similar to something my family in Spain eats - Bacalao.


Very very salty codfish.... or filet mignon. I'll pass.
 

so we are expecting a close game. our team is completely unpredictable this year. we usually play to the level of the competition. texas favored by about 4 points but i wouldn't touch it.

most of our fans know very little about your team other than the coach.

and as for the UT message boards, shaggybevo is the new kid on the block, for people who are bored with regular banter. hornfans was awesome for years but has died a slow death.

how bout some weather smack? it's 79 and sunny in dallas right now :D
 


Good thing we play the Gophers in March. Had it been August, I'm pretty sure they would be talking the weather smack as we hug our A/C units.

That's a good call on your part!!! I've never had Lutefisk, although I've had the misfortune of being exposed to the odor.....UGH!!!!:mad:

As for the weather, up here in duluth its a balmy 45....Believe me, that's good for this time of year :D

Anyway, looking forward to playing the Longhorns. Have always had respect for the University of Texas. I hear Austin is great and Longhorn fans have always been courteous, (at least the ones that I've spoken to over the internet :p) Here's to a good, clean game on Thursday!!!!
