How can we start better against Nebraska? Throw out some ideas.

How about this: Put together the first series of plays based on what Queis has the most confidence in or that has resulted in positive plays. Go back through all of the film year to date and see which throws he can make. I would love to start off with a pass play that connects! It seems like we typically start run, run, pass, punt. It's time to throw a curve ball at Nebraska.

Besides not turning the ball over, what are some other ideas?
 

Hopefully we can put a healthier team on the field next week and that will help.

Somehow I don't think Q tucking the ball and running with it every play is going to be effective, at least not over the long haul.
 


To me any improvement on the oline could go a long way to having a respectable outing next week. Nebraska isn't bringing one of their titan squads to Minneapolis, so we might get an unexpected breather (ie not a total beat down from start to finish). The Crick-less defense might show some vulnerabilities not heretofore seen. Whoever starts on the interior line will have an easier going. I don't see us winning but I think with a week off we'll get better results on both sides of the ball. Maybe like a 31 - 20 loss. We hang with them a little and then they pull away. At least I hope so.
 

How about not running that option-dive (not sure what the official play name is but I'm guessing you know what I mean) on first down? They must call that play 80% of the time on first down. There has to be another play that they can play-action into from that formation to throw the defense off.

My other big suggestion would be throw a 40 yd bomb on the first play. If you watch opposing defenses they keep all 11 defenders within 12 yds or so of the line of scrimmage. No one believes this team will try to stretch the field, so they stack the box and then we can't run or pass our 5 yard patterns. If we try to go deep a few times, maybe we can spread the D out a little and make some room for slants, runs, etc.

Or we could just keep running the bubble screen - it works for everyone else against us since 2003!
 

Have at least one extended drive in the first quarter. If you allow the Nebraska offense four/five possessions in the first quarter it will be over.
 

My advice would be for the Minnesota offense to take the ball and move it in an east-west vector toward the opponent's endzone until they have scored - preferably 6 points, but 3 would work as well.

Alternatively, the special teams could take a punt or kickoff return and matriculate it toward the opponent's endzone. A further option is for the Minnesota defense to force what is commonly known as a "turnover" and carry the ball into the opponent's endzone.

The nice thing about this gameplan is that it will prove beneficial regardless of opponent.
 



I personally like the quick slant passes - it would seem that McKnight is the ideal receiver for this play. It would be good to start with 3 passes that Q can throw...get him into some kind of rhythm!
 

Norwalk Virus for Nebraska

Hope that everyone that plays football for Nebraska is inundated with a case of the Norwalk virus and the entire team is puking or pooping there gutts out.
That would be about it.

It is a zone read and I agree, we have run that 10+ times a game and I am pretty sure we are still at negative total yards for that play on the year. It is a play that can't be run without a solid push for the O-line, which we don't have.

I think a nice 10 yard down and out to McKnight would be a good first play, they need to get Q in 2 and short situations more often and I would like to see us go to Lair at least 5 times, more would be nice.
 

I'm sure Jewhan Edwards has something to drop in their water that will knock them out for a few hours.

Latin origin of matriculate: to breed females. So, if you were in the ancient Latin world, you would have the special teams doing what exactly to those poor virginal women?

Nebraska has a tendency to go flat one or two games a season. After their ordeals with Wisconsin and Ohio State, this may be the week: little incentive against us. I'd make better use of the tight ends and try to get a short passing game going to open up the running game, including the running game of Q. We are not going to be able to stop them from scoring, assuming Martinez is healthy, so a shoot-out is our best bet.
