....but after watching the Badgers last night, they look like a team that can seriously contend for a national title. I can't stand their coach and fans, but that is a FOOTBALL team. (and yes, I realize UNLV is awful) Weapons everywhere, physical, and quicker than I expected. Gawd I hope I'm wrong. Maybe they'll come here undefeated on Nov. 12 and we'll pull one off for the ages.

then please don't. as you stated, the fact it was UNLV was a huge factor. 95 out of 100 posters here do not care about the vag'ers and butt bielema. can we please keep the discussion focused on our team who plays in just over 24 hours?

I wouldn't worry too much. I don't think they play a legit team until Big Ten opener VS Nebraska. The Nebraska game will tell us where they're heading. When you are playing small time programs with a team like Wisconsin that has 300lb hogs on the line things get ugly fast. However, when they matchup with teams with similar size, we'll know better.

The grind will slow them down. They also have serious depth issues at QB and a lack of distinguished playmakers on D. We'll see how the season plays out. It's not beyond belief that Wilson gets dinged in a game and their 4th string QB, now a #2, gives it away under a pressure situation. Wilson goes down for any stretch they're done.
I could see 2-3 losses, but they will be good, no doubt.
I'm interested in seeing the other Big Ten teams play their cupcakes too, including NMSU at the Bank.

"can we please keep the discussion focused on our team who plays in just over 24 hours?"

I believe I did. Read the last sentence or two.

I have to agree. The badgers look great last night. Russel Wilson made some good plays. I guess we will see what they are made of when they actually play some decent competition.

while we are off the subject: Hey Wine selling guy in the Merchandise Mart at the MN st fair...probably get more customers if you wouldn't wear your OSU golf shirt.

I saw that same guy last weekend. He was wearing a white w/red OSO polo. I normally would stop at any wine dealer. Passed right by that guy.

They don't have any play makers at receiver or tight end. Lost lance Kendricks and Garrett Graham. About all they have left is Nick Toon and he has never proven anything.

did he give out free booze? If so, I would have been on it.

actually...

Sat, Sep 25 New Mexico W 45-10 --
Sat, Oct 2 Nevada L 26-44 --
Sat, Oct 9 at West Virginia L 10-49 --
Sat, Oct 16 at Colorado State L 10-43 --
Sat, Oct 30 TCU L 6-48 --
Sat, Nov 6 at Brigham Young L 7-55 --

Thu, Nov 18 Air Force L 20-35 --
Sat, Nov 27 at San Diego State L 14-48 --
Sat, Dec 4 at (25) Hawaii L 21-59 --

Not to take away from how good the Badgers potentially are this season, but the Rebels were 35 (if I remember right?) point underdogs for a reason.

You write this after they win over UNLV? Get real dude, they have no chance. UNLV would make a community college look like a good contender. Yesterday's win meant nothing except that they won over a very easy team with ease. If you think that they will do that against B1G teams, it isnt going to happen. Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon, and LSU are better teams then Wisky.

Yesterday here is what Wisky fans were saying. "Wilson will win hiesman", "We are going to be National Champs this year", "Alabama and the likes can't compete with us". Wisky has never won a NC game in their 100+ year history and that will continue this year.

Nick Toon (never proven anything, LMAO!) and Jacob Pederson are both very good football players. Jared Abbredaris is a good #2 WR. Wisconsin has plenty of playmakers at WR and TE. You would have no idea.

Funny you should say that about losing Kendricks. We heard they had no playmakers at TE when they lost Owen Daniels. Then Travis Beckum. Then Garrett Graham. Then Lance Kendricks. Same story, different year. His name is Jacob Pederson. Made a ton of plays last year. He caught a TD yesterday, and he's going to do just fine at TE.

I thought the Badger offense looked like a Rose Bowl contender. I thought the defense looked like a 7-5 team.
As everyone said, it was UNLV. My first thought when seeing UNLV was, "do they have a weight room in Vegas?"

Looking at their road games, with OSU down and perhaps MSU down a bit also, their schedule certainly shapes up as the kind of schedule that could lead to a national title. Thankfully, they're not good enough.

Their defense was what stood out to me. They looked slow and disorganized many times. Score probably should have been higher on the UNLV side, considering some of the uncontested dropped balls that would have been for long gains. UNLV ran up the gut many times for long gains, some of them seemingly untouched. The pistol formation really seemed to confuse the front seven. The offense looked like I expected it to. If they can't shore up some things on the defensive side of the ball they will have problems with most teams in the B1G. Just my 2 cents.

Quit ragging on the OP. Wisconsin will challenge for the conference title, whether we as Gophers fans like it or not.

NOW, that doesn't mean we can't take the Ax back and eff up Bucky's entire year when they come to TCF. That's what I'm focusing on when it comes up, rather than what they are doing or who they are playing.

"What they eat doesn't make me sh*t. (to paraphrase Jay-Z).

The badgers looked very good on offense, but I wasn't that impressed with their defense. They were like 35 point favorites for a reason.

Yep.

Wisconsin played a great offensive game. Russell Wilson is huge for them, but you're fooling yourself if you think that he's the key to a national title. Games are won in the Big 10 with a running game and defense. They'd trade Wilson for another season out of JJ Watt in a heartbeat.

Not with the alternatives we have/had for QB. While our offense is probably not as great as it looked yesterday, our defense will definitely improve over the next three games. I think it could be a special team, but how special depends on luck as well as skill.

Good luck with USC. I hate that team and would like the B1G to represent well.

Your post was ill-informed last week, but I thought of it watching today's game......Just thought you might find it interesting that Jacob Pederson is on pace for 48 catches, for 600 yards and 18 TDs after two games. Toon is on pace for 54 receptions for 738 yards and 6 TDs. Solid numbers, especially when you factor in that both of the top running backs are going to go over 1000 yards rushing.....also good numbers when you factor in, Wisconsin hasn't even begun to open up the offense. With that production, both players will be some mention of All-Big Ten, Pederson most likely 1st team.

Wisconsin's got playmakers. Plenty of them.

Anything less than an appearance in the national title game should be considered a disappointing season for Badger fans.

Go Gophers!!

The table is set. Everyone else in the Big Ten (except MAYBE MSU) have looked shaky in their opening games.

LOL! Nice try Bleed. This isn't Ohio State. I guess you guys view us like your Ohio State with what the matchup has been the past couple decades. But Badger fans simply do not have those expectations, no matter what you say. Really....nice try. Good for a laugh.

*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# off...we've got bigger fish to fry right now. Go to your own *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ing board.

I don't believe you speak for the entire fanbase. Really....nice try. Good for a laugh. Are you really that pathetic that you have nothing better to do at midnight or 1 in the morning (wherever it is you're at) than to troll a rivals message board? Really it's sad.

That's a good point, you should probably not have those expectations since you have NEVER EVER EVER EVER won a national championship

also: let's extrapolate season stats based on two non conference games (against UNLV and a team who lost to Sacramento friggin State). What a valid, useful exercise.

The response was to a guy who said Wisconsin had not talent at WR and TE. It was a ridiculous, uninformed statement then, and it will be at the end of the season.

I agree that it is difficult to win a National Championship these days. Not only do you have to win all your games, but you have to win your bowl game too.
