Sid made a comment this morning about Henderson not being happy in Miami. Mona sort of downplayed it and said "we'll see and they have a new coach."

This is probably nothing, but I hope he doesn't end of being another guy who bounces around and never pans out.

Really? You would be broken up about that?

If you were speculating about Seantrell wanting to transfer home (to the Gophs), I don't think it would really work. I really like the young talent we have at O-line. I think it will become an area of strength for the Gophers with plenty of depth.

Seantrell really doesn't strike me as a Kill type of player. Seantrell & his dad seem to be about everything for Seantrell and not necessarily for his team (wherever that may be).

I do feel bad for Seantrell. He has no guidance and no one that is his advocate. He is surrounded by glad-handing sycophants, and that is just talking about his parents and family. He is a man-child being mentored by adult children.

I don't see a happy ending for this kid...and it won't be at Minnesota.

This is why I would feel bad for him. I've met him and from what I've heard he seems to be a good kid.

The more high-end kids that abandon their hometown and fizzle out will only help our in state recruiting. I obviously would never wish injury on anyone, but I wouldn't shed a single tear if Henderson never quite finds a place that makes him happy and successful....Walker Ashley-style.

Maxy is right, the right school could be a life changer for him, but it will not be here. Golden is a good coach; SH may be unhappy about stuff that would be the same as what he would find here now.

You do know that using "but" in that phrase negatives the pretend "wouldn't wish injury on anyone" phrase right?

You've just said you a kid fizzling out and it great for MN recruiting and that this wouldn't bug you. That's classy right there.

Whenever someone uses BUT in a sentence, I always take that it negates the first portion of the sentence.

Anytime the word BUT is used, it negates the preceding portion of any sentence, hence maybe it should not be used, but then again maybe it should! :banghead:

Getting grammar lessons from someone who wrote the above "sentences" is pretty funny. I was simply qualifying that, while I wouldn't mind this guy never succeeding, I wasn't actually rooting for him to hurt himself. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that sentence.

I think a kid with that talent is anyone's type of player.

Did you just give a grammar lesson (gotta love message board grammar lessons) and then write this?

Since Sid said he was not happy at Miami, I'm putting my $ on he's happy. A sid scoop:eek:

Maybe not

"I obviously would never wish injury on anyone, but I wouldn't shed a single tear if Henderson never quite finds a place that makes him happy and successful....Walker Ashley-style. " Quote

The sentence is just so much less controversial and much more powerful without the unnecessary beginning is my take. As in: "I wouldn't shed a single tear if Henderson never quite finds a place that makes him happy and successful....Walker Ashley-style. " Quote (assuming Walker Ashley never got hurt and just floundered, which I'm too lazy to look up.)

You might be correct. It's definitely not the greatest sentence I've ever written. I actually added the beginning clause because after I wrote the original post I thought I may get ripped for wishing ill-will on a fellow human. It probably wasn't necessary. I only responded to the original critique for two reasons. 1) While not flawless, I didn't think it warranted criticism and 2) Said criticism was apparently written by someone's cat walking across the keyboard. Thank you, 60's Guy, for the intelligently written notes on my post...much more professional than the first guy who I assume was trying to sound smart and unfortunately just made an ass out of himself.

The comparisons of Seantrel and WLA need to stop. Seantrel has already accomplished way more than WLA did in his entire floundering career. For those of you guys wishing he'd fade away like WLA, i'm sorry to break it to you, but it's already too late. He was a freshman all american, ended the year as one of the best players on the Canes and is considered amongst Canes fans as completely living up to his "hype".

For anyone wishing or hinting at injury with this kid, you need to grow up a little bit. I mean this kid chose to not play for the Gophers and has a screwball dad. He hasn't gotten into trouble, bad mouthed anyone, or done anything to warrant that kind of backlash.

Agree 100%. I don't get the hatin'. Put yourself in his position. He was recruited heavily for about three years and who could blame him if he got a few stars in his eyes?

From all accounts, he's not a bad kid. Do I wish he had chosen to play for the Gophers? Absolutely. Am I going to dog him that he didn't? No. If he had led us down the primrose path and changed his mind at the last minute, I'd have been a bit perturbed. As it was, I never got the feeling that he wasn't up-front with us.

Maybe you guys are saints, but I have a finite supply of goodwill. I save it for the players who come to the University of Minnesota. Recruits who go elsewhere presumably have plenty of people who will give them goodwill. I'm more concerned about the players on the scout team than about Henderson. This doesn't mean I wish him well, but I'm not going to spend my time on him. I really hadn't thought about him in quite some time before this was posted.

Pimpin' with the Old Man

A little help for SH's dad's newest rap:

We’re pimpin’ the country ‘round the USA
Expensing sucka teams in the NCAA
LA, Miami, and whoever else bites
Takin’ alumni's money, yeah that’s our right.

Yea, not sure what I was doing when I typed that 2nd sentence. My issue wasn't grammer. It was putting a legible sentence together. :)

Homer: That makes more sense. I still think its a poor position to take (being happy in a young kid's failure is taking things a bit far IMO) but it makes more sense.

Pathetic

It is pathetic that someone would wish ill-will on any person who chooses a school other than Minnesota! Really??? Pathetic.

I guess I save all of my ill will for things that merit some measure of ill will. In other words, as much as I love the Gophers and college football, I realize it's a diversion from what is really important in life.

Sorry if that sounds preachy. I realize that is just how I approach the world. Others can deal with these things as they see fit and I'll admit I felt a lot differently 30 years ago than I do now about things like this.

I'm fairly young and I completely agree with you, I want kids from Minnesota to succeeded no matter where they go and I don't fault him for not wanting to play under Brewster.

Are you saying that it is just a game? Thanks for reminding us of something that is not always obvious to some.

Why is it finite?

Perhaps you are a god, but we mortals have a finite supply of goodwill. Why should we bother caring about Henderson any more than about any other non-Gopher player? I don't wish him ill, I just prefer to focus on those who want to be here. What makes Henderson so much more worthy of our goodwill than the starting center for UMC? It seems rather like obsession over the girl who married someone else.

He would have started Day 1 for the Gophers. He was a freshman All-American and started 9 out of 12 games for the hurricanes on a much better team. He hasn't had any character issues. I see him making the NFL, quite easily actually.

This is probably the closest to my position. I don't want him to fail or struggle in any way (unless he's playing against us of course...then I hope he sucks for a game :)) but I don't see a need to cheer for him either.
