Coach Kill made comments in one of the interviews that I heard about working with MN Junior Colleges to build MN football. Just in the last couple years there has been eyewitness reports about how shady MN JC football is. I think that MNSCU almost killed all the programs. Now we have a coach and staff that has deep ties to JC football.

I hope there can be a trickle down of success for MN football. I'd love to see all levels of football get a boost from any success Kill has all the way down to inner city football.
 

It would be great if one of the Minnesota JC's could get to the level of some of the JC's in Kansas or the one in North Dakota that's produced a few kids lately. I would assume Kill hopes to place some kids at a JC in Minnesota and/or hopes a JC here starts attracting recruits from the South. With the "U" becoming more selective in it's admissions, I wonder if that will encourage the state to beef up the JC's a little? I know at least in basketball, that a JC can go from an also ran/afterthought to a must stop for coaches recruiting in a very short period of time.
 

I hope it helps. For the most part, we have some of the the worst JC football anywhere. I remember in the late 1970's when Inver Hills was a national powerhouse...
 

I don't see any of the JC's starting to offer scholarships in MN. This is not a very high level of football right now. First off, you would need a few schools to move up a level. I can't imagine what Wahp Sci spends on travel to play teams on a similar level. I don't think Wisconsin has any Div 1 juco's either? Madison Tech?

It would be nice but I don't see it happening.

Where the Gophers should REALLY take a look...

North Dakota State College of Science is a 2-year technical college in Wahpeton, ND. They are a D1 JUCO and send kids to major NCAA D1 programs each year. These players fly under the radar in high school and make their way to the big time through NDSCS...schools included over the past 5 years: Arizona, Hawaii, Tulane, Cal, Florida State, Iowa State, North Dakota State, Clemson, Middle Tennessee State, Northern Iowa, Arkansas and Michigan State. The only player of the last decade to go play for the Gophers? Keith Lipka, a defensive lineman who came to the Gophers in 2002. How are we missing this?
 

I think Isaac Odim from UMD also spent a year or two at that Rochester JUCO.

Yeah, he is an extremely talented kid. The U stayed away because of some off the field issues that he had coming out of HS. He seems to have gotten through those issues, so it would have been nice to have him in our backfield. But at the time, it's not shocking that the U wasn't interested.

Oh yeah I know about that stuff...I mean come to the U after his JUCO years.

The problem with RCTC is academics ya they have good athletes but when your admissions standards are you have a pulse and your in the kids aren't gonna be very smart. But that is the problem with all JUCOs in Minnesota. Maybe we should start stealing players from SCSU and MSU, I mean they are kinda like Junior Colleges right?

No, they are not like junior colleges. Getting players from JUCOs is easy, it's normal to move up from a JUCO to a 4-year college unless all you are after is an associate degree. Moving from D-II to D-I, that's tricky. We don't "steal" from JUCOS.

If the JUCOs improve on the field, they could attract more players who think they can get a BCS offer if they go to a JUCO first.
 

One place we need to be looking at is Iowa Western. They sent a handful of kids to the D1 ranks. They sent kids to Oregon, Iowa, Baylor, Rutgers, West Virgina, Washington State and Mississippi. The HC and OC are brothers, former college QB's and are from Minnesota. They are really good guys and know the game inside and out. We need to have the new coaching staff build up a relationship with them, along with NDSCS, so they can steer their kids our way
