Nosa Eguae is a starting DE for Auburn as a redshirt freshman
Demond Washington is a starting CB for Auburn as a senior (juco transfer)
Ralph Spry is on the roster as a WR and returned kicks in one or two games
Roszell Gayden is on the roster as an OT, but I don't think he's played in a game.

LaMichael James is obviously a star at RB for Oregon
Josh Huff has made some big plays as a true freshman for Oregon

All 6 of those guys took visits to Minnesota (not that Spry really counts) and many of them were committed at one point or another.

Other notes: Ted Roof is obviously coaching for Auburn. Auburn also signed Taikwon Paige who was going to be a Gopher before Roof left, but he didn't qualify. Eric Dungy, who I believed the Gophers offered, is at Oregon.

I was thinking the same thing -- Roszell Gayden, Ralph Spry, and Josh Huff first came to mind as guys who committed here at some point. Obviously, you cannot create a roster of 80+ on 3 commits; but damn, sure would be nice if the media in this town were more friendly to the program and its recruitment.

Vikings play the Eagles tomorrow night in a lame-duck game in the waning moments of a horse**it season. Why give a damn, when Tubby and the team are ranked and playing in a match-up of Top 20 teams. Honestly, does any one care about the 'Queens game tomorrow with onset of the B10 season. It is this ignorance in the media for which I have no patience. Give credit AND NEWSTIME where it is due --- our U!

Newstime and credit are given to where the most people have interest. Check the tv ratings on Wednesday.

Yes, there are a lot of Gopher recruits in the title game. Now on the to the interesting part of this thread...It's ridiculous to compare the Vikings and Gophers' fanbases. This isn't so much a "vikings town" as the U.S. is an NFL nation. It's easy to say the media reacts to the interest of the public, but I think the public just as much reacts to the interest of the media. The NFL is pushed down our throats at all times and most of us have no choice but to follow that which is easy to follow. Almost everyone I've spoken to this week is more excited about the Gophers game than the Vikings game (my sample size is admittedly small and possibly biased). If you were to compare our market to other markets that have both major and 'minor' sports, I bet we are split more than usual. Not saying the Gophers will win the ratings (because they won't) but no 'true Minnesotan' should be watching the Vikings. Heck, they have a fair chance of being in Southern California in a couple of years. The Gophers are never leaving. Support your Public University!

If Ralph Spry wins a National Title then the world might implode on itself.

How on earth did this turn into a Vikings thread?

Giving a kid an offer and a visit is only 2/3 of recruiting. Hopefully Kill does the final 1/3 as well.

Do you really want another Brewster failure article about how he failed in getting a bunch of guys here and couldn't keep good assistants?

A Viking town?

Probably, when they're winning. You have a "special" game at TCF stadium with all the national media hoopla and the 50th anniversary intro's. You had at least 10,000 no shows and by the 3rd quarter everybody was shouting: "Who hates Iowa, we hate Iowa". What's funny, you also would've had at least 15,000 no shows at the dome. They've another bad year in 2011 and you will be able to buy Viking tickets at your local garage sale.

There were many factors that went into the lack of people at the game. Record was not top three in my opinion. Snow/General Admission/Parking outweighed record. The Vikings are #1 and it isn't even close. The Bears were playing to clinch the North and only 40% of Chicago homes watched the game. 50% of Twin Cities homes had the game on.

I will be watching the Rodent/Skunk BBall game, with my mini TV running the Iowa/Missouri Bowl game. Then, during commercials I may check up on the Vikings score if I remember.

The Gopher Basketball game will be over long before the Insight Bowl starts at 9pm Central.
