Take this for what it's worth, as we know there was another player that said he was leaving this year and he didn't - but wanted to pass it along. Thanks for Awags777 for sending this to me!

I've attached the screenshot of his post.

Too bad - he did some nice things on the bball court, it was nice to see a guy play both sports. If it is final, I wish him the best!

That actually bums me out a bit. I loved that they had someone playing both major sports, and he seemed to be a good kid, with an infectious smile. I wish him the best of luck!
 

Based off the spelling and grammar I'm surprised he has even been academically eligible
 

I really hope for his sake this wasn't a "football decision". He will be a RS SO next season and he will be the 2nd best WR on a BCS conference football team. This is a kid who was all set to be our #1 WR for 2 seasons.

If I had to guess, i'd guess he is going to focus on basketball and he would have been unable to do that on scholarship at the U. Tubby doesn't have a scholarship available for him and probably wouldn't ever have one for Bryant Allen.

Oh well, he seemed like a nice kid that worked hard. I wish him the best.


On a side note, we need some WRs bad. It sounds like Brandon Green is not a lock to ever play football again. If Green isn't able to play than we will essentially have McKnight, Kiese, Barker, Cameron Wilson....we would have to hit the JuCo ranks pretty hard looking for someone who can play WR. We'd probably also have to consider moving someone their current position to WR. I think these are the possible guys who would/could move...

Bennett: A decent RB who could get some looks in the slot. He doesn't have the blazing speed for the position, but he is a good receiver, etc.
Brock Vareen: He was actually a really good WR in HS. Our 2nd weakest position is probably DB, so this might not be the best option.
Wright: I remember Brew saying that he wouldn't be surprised if this kid ended up at WR. I've never seen him play, but all the descriptions of him are that he has the size and speed to play WR.
Stoudermire: He could move back to his original position. I think I would like this move the least. He wasn't a natural WR and he was one of our better defensive players once he made the switch. I hope for Troy's sake and for our D's sake, Troy is allowed to stay at CB.
 



I can't believe that this would have to do with playing time because he was set up for plenty of it going forward. I hate to see him go, but oh well, he wasn't a game changer either.
 


Too bad if true. He showed some flashes during his two seasons here and would have gotten a ton of playing time, so I would doubt it has anything to do with that. He could develop into a very good possession/slot receiver in the right program.
 

This hurts from a depth perspective, but to me, Allen didn't show anything to me to say he was a big ten starter on a good team (I believe he will be a junior this year - I know he played his freshman year because I still remember him getting knocked silly - literally- against Cal last year on a punt return). I didn't see any of the playmaking-skills we all expected from him out of high school. He doesn't seem overly fast, he wasn't all that great catching the ball... To me, he's just been "blah".

Yes, he would play more next year and maybe that would have helped him develop, but he's played enough thus far to show something, but again, I just didn't see it.
 



I guess we'll have to find someone else to "fair-catch" every single punt...just kidding, we can't really afford to lose any WR. He will be missed.

Don't forget Devin Crawford-Tufts, he's signed for next year too.
 

This is too bad but Allen never really found that playing time on a regular basis. Maybe this was his year. I did see Allen take a wicked hit during the California game a couple years ago when fielding a punt where he received an obvious concussion. I believe he later suffered another one in another game. With all that is being exposed about the impact of concussions on these ballplayers, I hope he takes care of himself wherever he goes.
 

This definitely hurts the ol depth at WR, we've had some bad fortunes at that position. I mean, we might lose all of our receivers from that '08 class in Vincent Hill (who never showed up), Brandon Green (might not play again), Broderick Smith (transferred to be near family), and also Xzavian Brandon (haven't heard about him lately, assume he won't here anymore after those two injuries). Plus now Bryant Allen from the '09 class. It's hard to make up that kind of loss at one position.

We also have a verbal from Cameron Brown this year, hope he sticks to it. Also have Logan Hutton on the roster currently. But it's hard to count on a lot of freshman and redshirt freshman. JUCO probably will be the route Kill goes. Unfortunately our history there isn't exactly brilliant either lol.
 

Good luck to Bryant Allen, enjoyed watching him play. I disagree with Bob in that I don't think Allen would have ever been the Gophers no.1 WR, he's simply too small and not explosive enough to make up for that lack of size. I think he could have contributed in the slot, but I just didn't see him ever being an effective outside the numbers WR. While he never made many big plays on PR's, I did appreciate that I always felt confident he'd catch the ball cleanly and not fumble.
 

Glad I'm not the only one who remembers the Cal game last year. He looked like a boxer who had jello for legs coming off the field. He also held onto the ball I believe, instantly becoming one of me and my dads favorite players. I wish the kid nothing but the best.

Leo Lewis just breathed a sigh of relief. No one can touch his Minnesota fair catch record now.

Allen seemed like a good kid, the Gophs needed him for depth at WR, but as the old saying goes: "Next man up."

I'm guessing "Gopher Broke" is another incarnation of Pantherhawk or Darth Harry Potter or whatever the tool is calling himself these days.
 

Can't say he stood out to much on the field. Maybe with a new coach coming in who the players know is going to expect and demand some production, he was not living up to expectations as it is. The thought was a little to much.

Or else he just got a little tired of snow.
 

I figured he would do well in Kill's offense. You could move him around a lot similar to what Percy Harvin did at Florida (by no means am I saying Allen would ever be as good as Harvin).
 

I would guess that he was one of the 22 potential academic issue players. I can't imagine any player transferring based on the new offensive system, or on some other conflict with Coach Kill. It certainly isn't because of "changes". Transferring to a new school is far more of a change than what's been going on the last couple of years.

Or he really liked his position coaches and now they're gone. It doesn't have to be academic. Nor does it have to make logical sense. It is completely possible that its an emotional reaction.

No, he has to be dumb. Players never transfer when new coach arrives for issues related to that coach or sport. It is always because they are too dumb to stay at the current school. I would point to Ryan Mallet as a perfect example. He just didn't have the brain power to cut it at Michigan.

You have a point there. Allen may never have grown into a legitimate #1 WR, but he would have been one of our leading receivers for the next couple seasons.

As far as the people questioning how much he has contributed already, the kid was still young. He was in his 2nd year in college. I think this is a pretty big loss.

Another thing, I really don't think his issues were academic. I know that if there were any questions about his academics, he wouldn't have been allowed to walk on to the basketball program. The guys who walk on and attempt to play a second sport are held to a significantly higher academic standard than others. This is pretty standard because if you are the football coach (and the one giving him a scholarship) you wouldn't want to take a kid who is having a hard time staying eligible and allowing him to put a ton more on his table.

I think there might be two distinct possibilities:
#1: Allen wants to focus on basketball. If he did this, he would have to transfer. The U doesn't and won't have a scholarship available for Bryant Allen. He would also have 3 more seasons of eligibility left in bball.
#2: This is PURE speculation: Maybe Coach Kill wanted him to focus on football and didn't want 2 sport athletes. If he is our #2 WR, a tad injury prone, and pretty slight, it could make sense that the coach wanted him to focus on football and adding a bit of weight.
 

Sucks, It's ok tho. Guy's got a lot of class. Wish him all the luck where ever he's headed.
