The latest trade idea out there for Jeffers is one that could work.


The Athletic proposed that the Yanks trade Anthony Volpe and Camilo Doval to get Jeffers.

"Jeffers will be a free agent after this season, so this move would also give the Yankees a stretch run to determine if he could also be a longer-term fit," The Athletic's Chris Kirschner wrote along with that idea. "In return, the Twins would get two change-of-scenery candidates in Volpe and Doval. It appears Volpe's time with the Yankees might be running out, with the imminent promotion of Lombard, and Doval has been reduced to a low-leverage role in the bullpen. Doval, an All-Star in 2023, is under club control through next year, so maybe the Twins could revive him."

The important news for the Yankees -- The Athletic has former MLB GM Jim Bowden on staff, and he writes that both teams would say yes to this offer.

"The Yankees need more offense, especially from the right side of the plate, and Jeffers would be a perfect fit for them," Bowden writes. "After missing about two months with a hamate bone fracture, he's healthy and has posted a .930 OPS this season, with nine homers in 157 at-bats. Volpe, 25, needs a change of scenery, and with more than two years of remaining club control, it's a risk worth taking for the Twins, especially considering Jeffers is an impending free agent. From the Yankees' standpoint, Lombard is ready for a promotion to replace Volpe, and they would still have José Caballero as an option at shortstop. In addition, the Twins have identified relievers as their biggest need at the trade deadline, so taking a chance on Doval makes a lot of sense for them."


Jeffers isn't the only catcher the Yankees have been linked to. Another expiring contract catcher who could be on the market is Reds backstop Tyler Stephenson.

The big name is Rockies star Hunter Goodman, who has longer-term club control and would cost by far the most.


It'll be interesting to see where the Yankees land by the deadline at the catcher position.

My prediction is Houston will be a top 100 prospect next year.

The Minnesota Twins are hovering around postseason contention this season, and could very well end up as trade deadline buyers if they close out July and begin August on a strong note.


As they prepare for the deadline, if they are buying, then starting pitching and bullpen are their top need to address. While they could sell, in an ideal world, they would upgrade the rotation and/or the bullpen.

Dan Hayes of The Athletic is predicting that the Twins will wind up trading for MLB help, but to do so, he's predicting they'll end up using some Major League talent to improve the rotation.

"In an effort to bolster their long-shot odds, the Twins will trade someone with experience off their 40-man roster - perhaps Matt Wallner, Ryan Jeffers or Trevor Larnach - to acquire major-league pitching help," Hayes writes. "The club also will dip into its farm system, though not at an all-in level, to add useful pieces to Derek Shelton's big-league bullpen and perhaps the rotation."

This trade deadline prediction for the Twins would be a very fascinating one. While the Twins might be trying to contend, pushing for a postseason spot with their 53-54 record, they could trade from their MLB roster.

All three of the players Hayes notes could be on the move to make this prediction come true have been rumored to be in trade talks this summer.

Jeffers has been strongly linked to the New York Yankees, and the Twins could end up pursuing someone like Camilo Doval in a deal with New York to bolster their bullpen.

Larnach and Wallner are outfielders who would surely help land a decent player in return. Upgrading the rotation and bullpen are musts for the Twins if they want to contend, and using these three MLB veterans would be a smart way of improving the team.

Jeffers should receive significant trade interest, while Larnach and Wallner should also be good enough trade chips to improve the MLB rotation and/or the bullpen.

This prediction is a fascinating one for the Twins, as they could sell some Major Leaguers this summer to improve the overall makeup of the team for a postseason push.

Hayes is predicting the Twins will buy this summer, but also trade from their MLB roster in the process. It could be a win-win for the Twins, as they sell their top trade chips while still improving the roster. It won't be easy, but if it works, it would be a great idea.
