Gopher Hockey Recruiting

Interesting tidbit from pronman on W Cullen noting he’s going to play center in college though is a wing prospect for the NHL.

Certainly has the size and skating ability to play center

Gonna play center because they don't have anyone else to.
It may also be he has great puck skills, size and speed and has grown over half a foot so it’s now actually a realistic option he may develop that skill set which would help him immensely as a pro

Prepare for some growing pains... Going up against a third year Michael Hage will be fun

as there are every year for anyone playing center for the first time in college. Didn’t say it was ideal but could see why this could be a good fit given he’s played center in the past and now has the size to try keep doing it

If they really aren't gonna add a solid center, which seems like they're not, I'm now thinking a tournament appearance is optimistic. I'll say 50/50 for missing or a round 1 loss but my gut says miss the tournament.

W Cullen
Mooney (not a good idea)
Ludtke
Moe

They're gonna get absolutely worked at the dot

I assume this is the fewest Gophers ever taken in a modern draft at one, maybe two. Motzko simply quit recruiting when he knew he was done.

Casey goes undrafted.

I would agree with Bonin this probably has to be the fewest gophers ever taken in a single draft, acknowledging that number could rise pending future commits

Need to find a goalie to compete with Casey for the net coming up as the top goalies in the big ten are stars these days

Yes, don’t blame it on the new hire that the Rucks and Fitzhenry committed to another program last week. Blame it on the guy they fired in March for not continuing to recruit. Makes perfect sense

We were talking last year about Motzko not recruiting for almost a year so ya this draft year is mostly on him.

And not getting top CHL guys last minute is on us not having enough NIL money which will kill any Gopher coach

On top of that you have the shithole Mpls is becoming around the U having parents send kids like Berchild elsewhere

Larson has his work cut out for him

I don’t think anyone has ever accused Motzko of being lazy or a quitter but if you and a couple of randos on an anonymous message board say it’s true I guess it must be so. Im sure It’s definitely based on more than you talking out your ass.

He was never the same after his son was killed by a drunk driver. I feel for him but he should’ve stepped down . You could tell the recruiting and effort fell off after that happened.

I mean in fairness he made the frozen four each of the two years after Mack’s death.

Those players were already on the team and recruiting was taken care of pretty much. His recruiting, which reflects in the last couple of seasons did not seem to be as inspired as previously.

After a tough start to the pipeline losing Fitzhenry, Larson has back to back big time commits with Willis and Schneider to make up for it.

Yup, that's a nice pickup! He must have accelerated, and it'll be a big question of if he should come in freshly 18 or not fall of 2027.

If he continues on this trajectory I’d probably bet next season. I’m pretty sure he’s literally one day younger than the cutoff for the 2027 draft where he’d be a high pick.

It will be interesting to see how high he gets picked especially if he’s playing college in his draft year. He’s on the smaller side but not like a Mooney. Regardless he racks up the points every team he’s on and that’s most likely going to continue in college.

Carter Meyer, at the end of the year Willis and Fitzhenry would sometimes play center
all of whom are projected 1st rounders. It’s a great pickup no matter how you slice it and a kid who looks like he grew up a Gopher. Good to see Larson and Gordon closing on ones he should

Where is Willis already projected as a first rounder two years out?
HFBoards. Borderline but obviously its 2 years out and a ton can change. All the same boat as say Joey Cullen being projected at/near the top. Some will continue on that trajectory, some won't.

Also been discussed in scouting sites after his tournament success
