Isn't this the emptiest of all threats?

If the SEC pulled out, they would only be a regional conference. No one on the national stage would even care about them anymore. I'd never watch them again. The only reason I watch Georgia-Alabama is because it impacts my league from a national playoffs and championship perspective. If they are no longer in any way associated with my team or league, I would never watch again. I'll watch the Atlanta Falcons if I want to watch the best football in Georgia! SEC income would plummet and they'd lose just about all the best athletes in their area to the remaining teams playing in the nationally relevant, FBS. The ACC and Big 12 would like nothing more than for the SEC to bail and leave them remaining with the B1G in the FBS. It would INCREASE their national exposure. Georgia Tech, Clemson, Miami, Florida State, among others, would love it too. If you want to stay close to home and play on a national stage, you can't play in the SEC.
At least the B1G is already national. It would be dumb for us to go it alone too, but we'd have a better chance especially considering we could likely scoop up a few more schools to make us a MORE national conference. Some of those schools would likely come from the SEC by the way! I'm talking to you Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M. You think they just want to be a part of a regional conference? Football at the highest collegiate levels is national advertising for these universities.
Kirby is obviously a super smart guy and knows this. It's a negotiation ploy with no legs. The SEC sees it's power and influence slipping away and can't figure out how to stop it. I don't blame him.
