Surprise at #4 - CBS Projects Gophers Drake Lindsey to Get Drafted #4 Overall; Greg Johnson 15th

So, let me ask a dumb question. Can we safely assume Drake is gone after this season? Do many QB's leave after two years? I never imagined Drake would only be here two years (three including redshirt). As only a very casual observer of teams other than the Gophers, and the NFL draft, this has me really surprised. If someone asked me how many good-to-great NFL QB's have come out of college early, I would guess virtually none. Enlighten me please.
I am a HUGE Drake Lindsey fan. I would be shocked if he goes to the NFL after this coming season. That means the Gophers are 10-2 and in the Playoffs. He has the tools and potential but in reality, he is not where he wants to be at this time. Another two great seasons with the Gophers will hopefully get him where he needs to be to be a top 4 pick in the NFL draft. I do think he will be a first round pick in the 2028 draft which will be held in Minnesota. How fitting would that be? Go Gophers!

That's an awfully sunny outlook. If Drake is a projected first rounder after this year....then we are looking at a great season. If he's projected as a top five or even top ten pick....I would think we'd be looking at a historic season. Here's hoping.

No....in fact I would be pretty surprised if he does leave after this season. He would have to be a sure fire top pick for that to happen and he isn't there yet. But as I said in another thread where Drake got a high projection, if he in fact plays well enough to justify that protection it probably means we had a great year.

One pundit (Tom Fornelli) recently published his ranking of B1G QBs for the upcoming 2026 season. He had Drake Lindsay at 13th, behind several senior year QBs and the Illini and Badgers' transfer QBs. I really like Lindsay. I think he stays for two more seasons (for maturity and experience) and gets drafted, perhaps in an early round. Number four pick this year, however, strains credulity. The guy who picked Lindsay and Greg Johnson to go in the first round ignored the Gophers' best and most NFL-ready prospect: Anthony Smith. Verdict: clickbait.

I know nothing about the NFL and how they evaluate players. With that said, it seems to me that they place an emphasis on physical measurements and athletic ability. Mr. Lindsay is 6'5"(?) and 2XX (I heard he lost weight?. Anyway he seems to be in that "perfect QB size range.
I know he’s a white guy from Arkansas but he reminds me a bit of Ryan mallet who had a 7 year nfl career.

2300 yards 18 touchdowns and 6 interceptions

I believe only 6 QBs in college football had 2000+, 15+, and 9 or less

Two of them are Drake Lindsey and arch manning

I do not think he is a first round draft pick but there are reasons to be pleased with him.

Great numbers for a guy on a below average offense.

In my worthless opinion he’s… very, very good with all the intangibles. Expectations are off the chart for this fall.

Best of the rest

Drake Lindsey, Minnesota

At 6-5 and 230 pounds, Lindsey is a big, strong-armed pocket passer who can rocket the ball to any part of the field. He finished his first season as a starter with 2,382 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has the downfield arm strength that makes you sit up in your chair. Lindsey isn't shy with making risky throws and trusting his targets to haul them in. They aren't showcased much in the Golden Gophers' scheme, as his 6.9 air yards per pass attempt ranked 119th in the FBS.

Wasn't he the QB for Petrino's team that was up to #3 in the polls? I think he went to Michigan first because Mitch Mustain stayed home for Arkansas.

If he goes pro after this season, we likely had an awesome year. Next year's draft class has a lot of first round talent supposedly.

Yeah, Mallet had an absolute cannon for an arm.

I think it was actually the inverse. By his FR season, Mustain had already transferred. Mallet was born in Arkansas, but he grew up in Texas and was one of the biggest recruits in the country when he went to Michigan. He left Michigan when they hired RichRod (not a dual threat) and then went to Arkansas.

Maybe he would have went to Arkansas out of HS but that would have been pretty surprising for the #4 recruit in the nation coming out of a TX high school.

Good call. Mr. Mallet was also from Arkansas. RIP Ryan.

Though true, the white part wasn't the initial thought. Big QB with big arm from Arkansas was what I was thinking.
I first thought of it because I thought they looked and played alike
Then I remember mallet from Arkansas
