Per Scott:

Significant frustration over governance and other revenue-related issues between the Big 12 and the power-conference duo of the SEC and Big Ten has boiled over for one Big 12 athletic director, who told reporters, “Let ’em break away.”

“I would turn it around and say we should break away from them,” Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard told reporters along his annual Cyclone Caravan and filmed by Cyclone Fanatic. “Let them go, but they have to go in all their sports and see how fun it is to play baseball and softball and track when it’s just the 20 of you.

“That’s probably a little more draconian, but that’s how I feel about it. Let’s quit talking about it, quit threatening, go do it.”

Go Gophers!!

If they broke away it'd be closer to 40 (maybe even 50).

Yeah, and I doubt the impending idea of competing in track against the same schools carries much weight. If there ever was an individual sport that could exist on it's own without conferences....

But, if he wants to ensure most of the country never sees a regular season Iowa State game, having the B1G and SEC break away would do it.

Yep. He's not counting the other remaining big schools that would leave the rest of the conferences to join the two big boys.

He was not even counting 14 schools that are already in the Big 10 (18) & SEC (16), 34 total.

Substantially higher than 20 as it is right now.

The stance he is pretending to take doesn't sound as good when you have to say "have fun playing just the 50 or so best schools in other sports".

Agree. Other than the potential travel limitations, sounds pretty awesome in that context.

Yeah, I get the frustration from the other conferences towards the Big Ten and SEC but he definitely shot low on his number considering one of the two conferences in question has 18 on its own :)

It's what a Big 12 math education will get you. He could have said a gazillion and been just as exacting.

The SEC and the Big Ten should drop varsity football and start club football that's how you get around many BS rules.

I can't say for sure if he was in fact referring to the following thing, but here is my guess:

he thinks if the Big Ten and SEC split away from the NCAA, they would be legally required to be two standalone conferences/entities (at least for some amount of time).

Why in the world would that be??

Because if they tried to go it together in any recognizable form .... they could in theory be sued for collusion.

They probably couldn't be if one of the conferences simply expanded to take over all the teams from the other conferece, right?

OK.

So which of the two is going to abandon all of its history and tradition, and entirely bow down and submit to the other, then?

Yeah, right. Neither of them

When the money is right and the prenup is in good order there will be an SEC/Big 10 marriage. Most likely one of convenience not romance, perhaps a shotgun wedding.

What the actual **** are you talking about??

Good lord.

I think most people agree this makes some kind of common sense.

We'll see how the legal part of it goes.

Let me know which of the clear, very easy to understand words is evading your limited comprehension ability.

I'll do my best to help

Not necessarily. Your ridiculous legal fantasies are humorous enough.
