In the illustration...if you are a closer he doesn't get to Iowa. And in NIL fantasy money if you tack on another $200k to help you close the deal imo that's a closer.
I offer my opinion based on what I read. I try to learn what $ amounts seem to be consistent. I often answer questions on money so somebody else saves some time digging through the internet for an answer.
Bottom line...in 2026 NCAA Basketball, money is a fairly large component. Even if you are Louisville closing still matters. "We are going to talk to Duke and Kentucky tomorrow." Think that didn't happen?
If I had to choose one, it's really not close...the closer is the most important part. If you follow business...sales is a pretty big factor. Some guys sell way more cars than others, some guys sell way more houses than others etc etc....they can close deals better. Simple really.
So...you seem to be a guy who thinks "
Glengarry Glen Ross" is a documentary.
How do you think this works? That a kid comes in for a visit in a vacuum? You already wrote that all these guys have agents, and if the agent is not with them, do you think they are advised to do which of the following:
1. Boy, if the bring in the closer, and makes it seem like you just don't have any other choice than to take that deal, you better jump on it!
2. No matter what they say, we are still exploring other teams, we are going to weigh our options for the benefit of you and your family. And I shouldn't say this out loud, as your agent, but if I can get your pay increased...guess what...I just gave myself a raise.
I imagine you still think being a closer means dusting off your copy of Zig Ziglar, grabbing a legal pad and trying to utilize the Ben Franklin close on a kid and his agent like they just wandered in off a school field trip.
"If you follow business..."
Yeah...I'm in a fantasy business league, so I follow "business" pretty closely.
Savvy people don't get closed, weak minded people who need someone else to do their thinking get closed. Some sales people are better at recognizing those people.
