Durkin is back

Can he fill the scoring hole that Tyson leaves us? Or is that wishful thinking?

I wouldn't worry about filling Tyson's scoring. It will be a team effort to replace what he and Reynolds brought this year. Before Tyson we were concerned about replacing Dawsons, before him it was Willis and Battle, before that Carr. Someone always will step up (even on the bad teams).

Nailed it. Just by keeping guys fresh, we could score 5 more points per game and defend 5 points better (on average).

You don’t truly know what you’re gaining or losing, when it comes to the transfer portal until the dust has settled.

Before assuming Tyson’s production can’t be replaced, it’s worth grounding the conversation in what actually happened at the time he committed. When Tyson committed, expectations were measured at best. The consensus wasn’t that he’d become one of the top scorers in the B10, it was that he might provide depth and upside.

Here are quotes from threads when Tyson committed:

Low risk, high potential reward pickup.

This adds legitimate depth.

Hopefully somewhere between Carolina and Belmont stats.

So we should believe he got worse (or was overrated in '24) after a year at NC? Perhaps exposed a little defensively, but not worse.

Very solid addition at this stage of the game.

Although I would have preferred another big man personally, I think this is about as good of a prospect as we could have hoped for at this point.

What followed is the key point: identifying the right player, fit, and opportunity.

That’s the reality of the portal. It’s not just about replacing known production...it’s about identifying players who can grow into larger roles within the right system. The same evaluation process that brought in Tyson, one that clearly worked...will be applied again.

I trust this staff to sign portal players that fit and will welcome the opportunity.

Temu Chitwood was a nice surprise this year. I’m hopeful he’s not a starter next year but I do respect his minutes and am stoked he’s back.

Love me some Bob
