2026 Regionals

Wisco up 1-0 and probably should be more. Stramel is hurt but msu pp with a chance to tie it up. 2nd period has been much better hockey than the 1st as they open up a bit more.

Edit: woof hauser. He’s looked nervy all day and yep that’s one you’ll want back

Aaaaand 2-1 msu lol

So sick of never having an elite goalie.

Skukynsky
Augustine
Ivankovic
Gajan

And then the goalies with CHL ties at DU, UND, and uw
Tbh I’m pretty ok with hauser. He’s a really small guy and plays deep in his stance. Will always be corners to hit on him. Good goalie, not great. The 4 above are studs and wouldn’t put him in that crew

Not to mention, our goalie won the Richter award like four years ago. I’d call that elite. We’ve actually had a long run of good goaltending. Off the top of my head in the last 10-15 years we’ve had Patterson, Schierhorn, Wilcox, Robson, LaFontaine, Close. Goaltending has not been our issue until the last couple years.

MSU with a yikes shell approach and Wisco scored twice and we’re going to OT

It's been fine but I'd like to see the team get an NHL caliber or high end WJ team goalie for once if possible. There's been some guys to come out of this state who meet that criteria but they always ended up out east like Oettinger or Lyon. I do like what we have in Di Pasquo currently though, I think he's better than most of the names mentioned there.

Q has decided to not show up and a pair of ugly goals. Need to try respond here on the PP

I also like Di Pasquo. With a good D core in front of him he could be great.

Watching this playoff makes me want to puke. What a crappy year of college hockey all around for Gopher fans. Can’t even enjoy a hate watch.

Very disheartening to say the least. Hopefully MSU will pull it out. I wouldn’t mind them winning it all, our conference could use it and that outcome is better than UND, Wisconsin, or Michigan winning it.

Welp, either Wisconsin or UND will be in the national championship game. Awesome. Can’t believe sparty choked that hard.

That was a stunner, MSU will be kicking themselves and firing their head coach a couple of years from now.

Hastings, the obvious choice Coyle and the Gopher hockey power brokers passed on when they hired the coach they just fired.

Western Michigan is the only hope. Since 2003 our program has gone from easily top four ever to tier two historically. UMD can join the same tier with a win.

DU Tier 1
UM Tier 1
UND Tier 1
uw Tier 1 with a title

BC/BU/UMN Tier 2

I used to think we were like LSU football but I guess maybe it's more like Oklahoma?

Is Michigan really a tier above because they won 7 titles in the 50s?

But nine total. It's just a lot as they have the same number as the Gophers since 1980

Also the Gopher record in finals is about the worst of all the top teams if I recall, which is a strike against

Yeah, but I don’t put much stake in stuff that happened before 1960. Feels less significant to me. But obviously the number looks nice to flaunt. Same amount since 1980 and we also have been to twice the amount of championship games since then.

We’re actually tied for most championship appearances total. Sucks, with all the other stats you’d think we’d be much closer to the most championships. Have most tournament appearances, most tournament game wins (I think still), most championship appearances. Just have a horrible hit rate when it comes to the biggest moments.

You base everything on a single elimination tournament in a sport like hockey. Dumb.

Minnesota has the most NCAA tournament wins in history with 62. Denver has 55. Minnesota has the most wins period in history of the sport. Denver is 6th. For over half my life Denver was a bad program.

Minnesota is absolutely a tier 1 blue blood elite program in college hockey.

Titles are all that actually matters.

Absolutely not true. That’s a really naive short sighted statement. Denver was a joke for two decades in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s. Michigan sucked in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s.

The Gophers lost in OT in the title game against RPI in 1954 I believe it was. Had we simply scored that goal you would probably have a better opinion right now of our program because the number you’re obsessed with would be 6 instead of 5. Or if the NCAA existed just three years earlier we’d have a couple more national titles instead of AAU titles which we get no credit for. Or had Skarda’s shot in OT gone in instead of hitting the pipe in ‘89.

Our program is as elite as it gets.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts

Think MSU wins today. They were fortunate to win Thursday. Think they'll play better today, plus, they know fadgers.
Wouldn't put much money on Q.
Well, I was right about Q/UND but way wrong about MSU. Didn't see many of their games this year but they sure didnt look like a 1 seed in the tourney. Got outplayed both games and goalie saved them against UConn.

Not in this format. A single game of hockey has more randomness than any other sport, even the 97 Red Wings lost a couple games to the Coyotes in the first round, who knows what would've happened in a one game format.
Miss those years when the red wings were a wagon year after year
