2. Niko Medved (Colorado State)

Medved started his career at Furman in the early 2010s, before a one-season stint at Drake. However, it was at Colorado State that he took his coaching to the next level. Over seven seasons, he took them to the NCAA Tournament three times and won one regular-season championship with the Rams. That earned him a promotion to a Power Four program in the form of the Minnesota Golden Gophers, which hasn’t turned out for the best, with a regular season record of 15-17. Why not a lateral move to Raleigh for a change of air?

Go Gophers!!

Weakest summary ever that doesn't even mention UMN as Niko's alma mater.
Unc st job is toxic. I don't think they have won much since Valvano

That story names five candidates. Only one would take the job (Furman guy). The others have zero chance of leaving their current job for NC State. None.

They think the Louisville or Texas A&M coach would leave there and go play third fiddle on Tobacco Road?

If the St. Louis guy leaves, it will be for a better job than NC State.

Did the writer think he was talking about replacing Hubert Davis? LOL

What a waste of ink.

They made the final 4 a few seasons ago

Yes, they did! That was quite a run especially considering they likely wouldn't have made the tournament had they not won the ACC tournament. They had a 17-14 record before entering the ACC tournament.

Who would want to go there? Obviously they didn't make a strong ass offer or Wade would have stayed.

Yes it is. If Duke or Cheat could match up with us academically, they would be clamoring to finish off the Big 20! 😂

It’s a better job than Minnesota. But I don’t think Niko is gonna leave his alma mater for a mid range school…
No it's not. A mid-tier ACC or Big 12 job is not better than almost any B1G or SEC job in the new world of college athletics. Maybe Northwestern, Penn State and Rutgers but that's it.

Totally disagree. Minnesota is not as good of a job. I wish it was, but it’s not. The last time the gophers were relevant at all was 30 years ago. They had one or two decent seasons since then. NC State has a multiple NCAA tournament runs in that time span. I’ll agree that the big 10 or SEC is a way better conference, but you have a way easier path into the tournament and making a run at NC state then you do at Minnesota right now.

NC is hardly a lateral move. It funds men's basketball at a much higher level than here and recruits at a higher level!

It's not about Minnesota or NC State, it's about the conference. The ACC is a little brother to the B1G and SEC now. LSU did't used to be a better job than NC State either. But now it is.

That’s your opinion and I have mine. Totally respect that.

If it's any consolation, it sounds like they're talking to Josh Schertz

NC State has been to the Sweet 16 four times since the last time Minnesota advanced to the 2nd weekend of the NCAA Tournament.
