The U bought Station 19. What do you want to see The U do with it? Keep as BWW? New venture? Something bolder?

I think they should make it into a cool 3 level bar. Make the basement a traditional bar rail, surrounded by tables with a few pinball machines on the Oak St side and little TVs to watch sporting events. Perfect for grabbing a pitcher of beer at halftime of a hoops game or intermission at a hockey game. New Mariucci is just a few steps farther away than the old rink.

Ground level the larger bar with lots of tables for dining and floor space big enough for dancing after 10pm on Friday & Saturday nights with a DJ.

Upper level more tables and a rail to watch the action down below.

They should call it Station 19.
 






Was something special about station 19. I remember searching hard for the recipe for the bread they served. Found it. mmm
 


Build tunnels from Station 19 that connect to the Bank, Williams, and Mariucci. Sell limited memberships that allow you to go directly from Station 19 to these venues before, during, and after games. Should be profitable by 2050.
 



I'm hoping the U actually has a vision here and will use it as additional buildout space for athletics.

Literally the only reason the University should be buying that property.

They aren't in the restaurant business, so there has to be a grander plan.

Renovation or new arena has to be it.

They tried buying when planning new football stadium but owner wouldn't sell

I'm guessing they just want flexibility for any future expansion/new basketball/hockey arena

You make too much sense! But, the chances seem slim that's the reason but if it is it'll sit vacant until 2060 when the roof of Williams Arena collapses forcing them to do something.

It's to have flexibility. Building a new space will require a larger footprint to avoid over hanging levels and obstructed view. It will need to be similar in footprint to 3M Arena. 3M goes from street to street. They could shift the arena down closer to football stadium. They could even take do Williams and leave the Pavillion and have a gap between the two. Then hope to replace Pavillion in the future.

Since Station 19 can not be torn down, could retro fit the building into Admin/Ticket offices or any number or purposes to support a new structure on that footprint.

Yes. While my previous comment in this thread was tongue-in-cheek, there is precedence for new sports facilities incorporating a historically protected building. Petco Park's use of the Western Metal Supply Co. building is the best example. It'd be fantastic if Station 19 became the corner of a new building that housed the basketball arena along with facilities that could support the game day experiences for basketball, hockey, and football. Coyle could create quite a robust business plan around that vision.

Registered as an Historical Site. In another thread on the board regarding the same topic, that's not an absolute statement, but it would be quite a difficult undertaking to raze it completely.

I watched the Buckner game there in ‘86. The place was packed and went ape shit when it happened. This is why it has its Historical designation. 😀

I think if this involved some sort of grander plan/vision that was to re-purpose the area into a new or renovated arena project, the state would allow demolition.

I should note, I have no idea if that's what the thinking is in buying this. But, I'm not sure what other reason there'd be to spend that kind of money on that small patch of land.

Funny. Took the kid on a tour a few weeks ago and the guide said that the architecture building was voted the ugliest building on campus.

The part that annoyed me on the tour was that she also said the U was a Hockey School.
