I've seen predictions of the Twins being close to .500 to losing over 100 games. What say you gopherholers?
 


I think we go 73-89.

Not good. I hope I'm wrong.

FwIW Via The Athletic -

FanGraphs and Baseball Prospectus each predict 78 wins, the worst projection either outlet has given the Twins since 2017, when they were coming off 103 losses.

And even that’s wildly optimistic compared to BetMGM, which has set the Twins’ over/under at 72 1/2 wins.

Apparently I am the debbie downer here as I'm the lone 63-69 win guy so far. I don't think they lose 100 but do think they get close.
 



Ober didnt provide much warm and fuzzy today. 4 runs, 10 hits, and a lot of hard outs.

I'd be ok with that. I'd be surprised if more than 2 of Ober, Abel, Taj and SWM are still starting by all star break. Hope I'm wrong.

Abel's already in the rotation. Zebby needs to go to the bullpen. I don't think Prielipp is ready but if he is, he will get his chances.

Per Gleeman- He will be in the bullpen for the immediate future; he was sent to St. Paul to stay built up as starter, so when someone gets hurt he’s next on deck.

Per NYC - Starters and receivers have different throwing schedules/regiments. With Lopez out for year and Festa out for who knows how long, his value this year is as a 6th man/spot starter.

I realize Zebby is the 6th starter now. That's exactly why signing Giolito would make sense.

But signing someone makes it more likely they send him down if he has a few rough games. Prielipp is already 25, at some point they’ve gotta see what he can do.

I just can't get worried about guys being blocked when Ober's probably cooked, Ryan's likely to get traded by July and at least 1 out of Abel, SWR and Bradley will probably flame out or be injured by May 1st. There's no shortage of opportunity for anyone with a pulse.

Giolito can give stability to the rotation and serve as a trade chip if the season goes as poorly as expected. There's really no downside except to the Pohlad's bank account.

If they were going to sign them, I believe they already would have.

I don’t see Zebby as fit for the bullpen either, his stuff is not over powering.

FwIW ive never heard Gleeman or any other wag think he’s a future reliever, as they have with: Festa, Raya and Prielipp - whose thrown less than a hundred minor league innings.

I assume Giolito hasn't signed with anyone because his asking price is too high. But it should be coming down by now. And the Twins payroll is barely over $100 million. They can certainly afford him on a 1/$10 million deal or so.

Maybe not Gleeman but others who cover the team have said it. He throws 95, so he profiles as someone who could throw 98-99 out of the bullpen. He's also already had multiple chances as a starter in the Majors and flopped. He's exactly who they should try in the bullpen. He's Louis Varland part II.

I will take Gleeman over any others who you say/claim have said that; his sole vocation is covering the Twins, I don’t think the Ted guy on Twitter doesn’t have a real day job. Im pretty sure Gleeman has forgotten more about baseball than I currently remember.

So as usual we’ll agree to disagree 🤷‍♂️.

I would say he still developing vs. flopped.

I personally don’t see the mentality to be a reliever.

Varland was a cocky 💩 who was bitching about going to the pen because he didn’t want to lose that starter money- that attitude is perfect.
 


Sports Illustrated has the Twins at 72-90. Not last though as they have the White Sox at 68-94

Here is what they said about the Twins

A sudden change in front office leadership late in the offseason followed a chaotic 2025 that featured a trade deadline fire sale. Talent like Buxton remains, but more turnover is likely ahead. Expect things to get worse before they get better
 




Highly dependent on if they trade anybody of note at the deadline. If Buxton and Ryan stay healthy and aren't dealt, they can be in the 70-75 win range (my guess). If they get hurt and/or get dealt, watch out below!
