Coyle needs to go

He hired the best football coach we’ve had since Lou Holtz. He recently hired the best men’s basketball coach we’ve had since Haskins. A couple years ago he hired the best women’s basketball coach we’ve had in over twenty years. He hired Motzko which was the right decision. Yes he’s had some misses as well but overall he’s been very good.
Im optimistic about Medved, but pretty rich to anoint him as better than any coach who has made the tourney before I have a chance to pick one his gopher teams in my bracket.

Coyle seems to give the locals and influencers what they want on the same hire and then when they fail he goes his way.

Johnson, Whalen, and Motzko were all those type of hires in my opinion. Whalen got a good class in but seemed stressed beyond repair and as some have said, almost relieved when she was fired. Johnson just didn’t have the it factor. Motzko ran his course.

I think all three needed to go and weren’t going to adapt or survive the new reality of college sports.
Minnesota athletics has been run by influential and/or rich alumni for a long time. As long as I can remember, which is a very long time, there has been a power group that says, "You have to hire a M-man or M-woman as a coach or even athletic director." The Gophers exclude many good people, new ideas, and different ways of doing things. Secondly, these influencers say you have to recruit Minnesota kids and we can be a power with primarily Minnesota kids. Hockey unlike other sports in Minnesota, is a huge producer of talent but we are dividing the D-I pool seven ways within the state, getting poached by several big named schools, and are facing improved production of athletes elsewhere. Most sports at UM are now international sports and UM has to be willing to recruit and compete for players from everywhere. We need a huge fundraising effort for NIL and recruitment monies.

If they were that rich, why haven't we been paying for top football and basketball talent over the years?
