So, how are we feeling about this draw? The Bears come in with a 16-16 (6-12) record, but I feel like you can't count out a Scott Drew team. Baylor has won at least 20 games per season for the last 15 years before this season except once, a 19-15 finish in 2017-2018.

Drew led the program to the NCAA Championship in 2021. He's won two Big 12 season titles, and led his team to the Sweet 16 or better 5 times, with 13 NCAA tournament appearances overall. He also coached Baylor to an NIT title.

The Bears have G Cameron Carr, a junior who transferred from Tennessee. He was named All Big 12 Third Team. Carr averages 19.2 PPG, 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

They also have junior G Tounde Yessoufou, named All Big 12 Honorable Mention. He's averaged 17.8 PPG, 5.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Their record doesn't point to a great team, but should still be a test for the Gophers.

You could interchange Minnesota and Baylor player names and I wouldn’t be able to tell it apart! Hopefully Coach Drew is out coached by Niko in this one. It’s always the battle of who got their players to come out for these “lesser” tourneys. Interestingly $1mil might remove that issue from the equation.

What sticks out to me:
  1. Baylor takes a LOT of midrange shots
    1. but also forces their opponents to take even more
  2. Baylor is a bit better at offense and quite a bit worse at defense than MN
  3. Baylor is elite at offensive rebounding - this might be a big key to the game if the Gophs can hold their own on the defensive glass
    1. Baylor is bad at defensive rebounding, but the Gophs are bad at offensive rebounding, so those cancel out
  4. Baylor is very good at preventing 3FGAs, but once those shots go up, they go in at a high rate - this is also a key to the game; can the Gophs get their 3FGAs, especially because it looks like Baylor defense keeps you out of the lane and does not foul much.
  5. Not shown in the graphic, but Baylor is also pretty good, not elite, at preventing assists, a stat which the Gophs are #1 in the country.

Does Baylor have that 29 year old former NBA player? s/ 🤔😏

James Nnaji is who you're referring to, and he is on the team but hasn't been playing much (one minute in their last game, 6 minutes in the previous game, and did not play in either of the two games before that. He has had a back injury since coming to Baylor. This extended break may let him play a bit more in LV.

The number of kids who tour Baylor for college(non athletes) from mn and wi is amazing. I don’t get but my halcyon days at my beloved U are now on 30 years ago.
