Can only vote for one and you can’t change it.
Who yah got?

I’m going with Murray.
@GopherLady

Please change my moniker to Guru in NYC; as I posted this poll, correctly forecast Murray will be wearing The Purple as our starter, and this is likely the first time I’ve ever been right on the Hole😎.

Thanks

If the only way you can achieve total enlightenment is by puking on yourself and shitting your pants, there are much bigger problems to address.

Personally, I'd just light up a joint and physically assault a chocolate chip cheesecake to find my happy place.

I might live stream that 🥸

A friendly reminder of just how young JJM is, and the book is likely not closed yet on him.

I'm all in on Murray if he can take the Vikings to where they want to go. But I'm still in on JJM as well. There's very little downside to this move for the Vikings and for each of these QBs

None of the guys referenced in that tweet are anything to get excited about. I don’t care if JJM is 18 or 42, he had no business being drafted where he was. Bring on Kyler.

From Lewis’ excellent column today on the impact of the Murray signing.

—————

NFL teams rarely hold truecompetitions at the quarterback position. In fact, many of the available quarterbacks asked the Vikings about their allegiance to McCarthy.

Could McCarthy win a competition with Murray?

It’s highly unlikely.

Once the Cardinals released Murray, he had several suitors. Choosing Minnesota signaled a degree of devotion from Murray. In other words, he isn’t joining up with O’Connell, superstar receiver Justin Jefferson and the Vikings to sit and watch.

O’Connell wouldn’t go so far as to name Murray the starter Thursday. “Unless I’m confused in any way, shape or form,” he said, “I don’t believe we have to name one of those currently.

Will the Vikings think about adding another veteran QB behind Murray?

It would be a surprise if the Vikings didn’t.

Wenz was specifically mentioned ⬆️⬆️⬆️

Minnesota Vikings

There are at least two major questions, though: Would the Vikings prefer more of a system fitwith a player like Geno Smith, if he’s released by the Raiders? And what would Murray’s presence mean for 23-year-old quarterback J.J. McCarthy? The Vikings love to throw the football over the middle. That’s not Murray’s biggest strength. The Vikings have also wanted to thread the needle of finding a quarterback who keeps McCarthy’s development door open, but Murray would almost certainly receive the starting job upon arrival.

Following up on this mention from Lewis' article, specifically about throwing the ball over the middle of the field. Warren Sharp (the big gambling guru) did a ridiculously deep dive on the Vikings QB situation recently. It wasn't horrible, but it didn't exactly fill one with massive optimism. Here are a few excerpts from his statistical analysis;

"My biggest concern for Murray is the current state of the NFL and some passing tendencies that he shares with players such as Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson, who were productive early in their careers when the NFL was more spread-based and wide open.

Those passers have since struggled as passing games have become more compact, forcing quarterbacks to play more efficiently and to attack the middle of the field. That has always been a hangup for Murray, given his size.

On throws between the hashes over the past four seasons (when the defensive shift started to take place), Murray ranks 43rd in rating (81.5) out of 50 passers to throw the ball 500-plus times."

Staying on schedule is important for any offense, but it was particularly vital for Murray to close out his tenure with the Cardinals.

In third-and-long situations (needing 7 or more yards) over the past four seasons, Murray had a first-down conversion rate of 24.7%.

That ranks 34th out of 38 quarterbacks who qualify for the league’s passer rating over that period.

In the fourth quarter, while trailing over that run, Murray averaged 6.4 yards per pass attempt (28th) with a 3.5% touchdown rate (33rd).

Lots of chatter and opinions from now until the season starts.

I’d read Lewis column from today, listed in my previous post, on how they plan to figure it out/work with Murray. Is it a perfect fit? No. As good a fit as Darnold? Probably not. The best option available? I think yes, and Lewis provides data to support that contention.

Two other telling sentences from Lewis article -

When the Vikings signed Murray, one director of player personnel in the NFC texted: “Major upgrade for them.”

McCarthy is perceived as a sizable project.

Locked on Vikings Luke Braun was commenting on JJ McCarthy being a ‘problem’ on the team. Already spinning outta control in the reports.

We should be happy we have Murray and we should hope that JJ is able to beat Murray for starting QB. That would be best for the franchise. Right now, I would give the edge to Murray but I am rooting for JJ.

Now in 2026 everyone is saying JJM is trash I will assume he will be great in 2026 which will once again turn the tables on the media wonks.

... Why?

McCarthy might improve some, but he won't improve that much. He's not taking a team on a deep playoff run.

I'm ready to cast him aside.

More stats from Warren Sharp, always has good stuff. Representing the NFC North (YIKES, not a strong showing, and Kyler Murray apparently didn't have enough attempts to qualify, Brissett did)

5. Jordan Love
22. Jared Goff
25. Caleb Williams
30. JJ McCarthy

Have you bought your Kyler jersey yet?

Heck, I still have a cheap, lower end (not the $300 authentic kind) Cardinals Kyler Murray jersey. That's good enough for me at this point.

Largely I'm done with player jerseys. I have a jersey curse, I've mentioned here many times. Players either get injured, traded, don't pan out, etc. I have an authentic Cardinals Josh Rosen #3 jersey; just a couple of years ago I bought both Derek Carr and Josh Jacobs jerseys. Way back in the day I bought a Vikings Erasmus James jersey (some should remember that awesome 1st round pick).

Now I just go with either a polo, sweatshirt, or a custom jersey. I have a couple of really good custom ones actually.

Can’t even get a best offer for it on E-Bay?

At least it wasn’t a Dimitrius Underwood jersey 🤠

I used to enjoy getting the less popular jerseys. My two favorites are Mitch Berger and Chris Walsh.

I took 4 of my best friends since Kindergarten to what turned out to be the Mpls Miracle game against the Saints, and one of them showed up with a Blair Walsh jersey. Just classic. Got plenty of comments that day

A gopher fan buying a Badger’s jersey? I’m hereby revoking your Gopher card!

Maybe I’m petty, but it didn’t upset me too much when he was a massive flop.

^^^^. What GII said, I was looking to get one that not everyone would have. Anymore, you either go retro (always thought I would get a Joey Browner jersey if I went retro), or a custom one.

Flacco to the Bengals, which I guess can make sense for him.

Still curious to see what the Raiders do as a placeholder for Mendoza (presumably). Some vacant QB spots, starting or backup, still up for grabs
