2030: Bryant Haines, Indiana defensive coordinator
Haines was hard to place because on one hand the Broyles Award winner seems on track to land a head coaching job as soon as this year. On the other, the P4 market might be a bit slow this cycle.”


UCLA
Current: Bob Chesney (Year 1)
2030: P.J. Fleck, Minnesota head coach
Fleck is a fascinating case study. He has done an undeniably good job in his decade at Minnesota. You have to go back to the first half of the 1900s to find a Gophers football coach with a better winning percentage than Fleck’s .600. But he has cracked double-digit wins with the Gophers only once, in 2019. He has given Minnesota no reason to fire him while also never really positioning himself as a hot candidate for a potential upgrade.”


The article reports that Chesney is successful at UCLA and replaces Wittingham at Michigan.
 

Fleck will retire as the Gopher Football Coach, if allowed to. I truly believe that. Just my opinion. Most people will probably disagree which is OK. He is a perfect fit for Minnesota and will continue to build something special here. Am I dreaming? Probably. It would not be easy to start from scratch once again. He has built a great foundation at Minnesota. And he gets paid well. You can't tell me he doesn't have a great job here in Minnesota. Yep, he needs more financial backing for his Assistant Coaches, I'm hoping that happens. I think most Gopher fans appreciate what he has done in his 9 years. The best is still ahead of us. Fleck has really adjusted well with NIL, the portal and the new world of College Football. Looking forward to a great 2026 season.

If Fleck wanted to coach at UCLA he would have left after the '23 season like some thought he would. Not to mention, UCLA is a clear downgrade. He will either coach here until he retires or go to Notre Dame/Ohio State at some point if he coaches good enough to be in consideration.

You are so right, I don’t know what is worse, the boredom of no foorball or this inane crap that comes out every week on multiple sites. I actually have started to ignore.

Correct 25% of the nfl will change coaches in a year

Apply that to power 4 and it could be 16 coaches per year or so in the power 4

Clemson, both Carolina’s, Baylor, FSU, Wisky all have a hot seat heading into the year. Some of them will recover but there are other teams that will fall off. Just takes 2/3 teams.

The 2029 season would be Fleck's 13th season here.

If over these next four years (26 - 29), there isn't even a 9 win season, it will be well time to move on. It just gets old at some point and we get farther and farther away from 2019 and it not being some flash in a pan for a coach who was built to lead in a bygone era.

Will be looking forward to someone new.

Sometimes I think fan made metrics are some of the best ways to see why there's so many bad managers out there. "Sorry don't care about anything else, you didn't hit this one metric!"

It was more so based on 13 years. Short of doing something spectacular the next few years ... that in of itself feels like too long for one man to have control of the ship.

Let someone else give it a shot. Fleck did some great things, and some good things. That is fine
 

Would your dream have been for Jerry Kill to have never had any seizures and thus still be the head coach here since 2010? Would that have been your ideal scenario?

Averaging 7-8 wins per year except for one spectacular season in addition to the 2014 Citrus Bowl year?

Fleck can win as many or as few games as he wants as long as those wins keep including Wisconsin
