Do you like the PA "And that's another Golden Gopher... First Down" Announcement?

This debate pops up here on a regular basis. Figured a poll would help.

Maybe we can get this as a Sticky so we can refer to it when it comes up again.

You need to post that link and corresponding 2:50 mark in the other two threads currently running on this subject. After all, the question was if it would continue under Kill. I think the 2:50 mark provides the answer.

I would like to hear more of the band and less of the announcer (and none of the electronic hype, ads and music).

I like the first downs.

I don't mind the idea of a cheer. I just don't like that it is led by the PA guy.

I also think 'Rah' at the end of the rouser is lame.

This may sway some in the vote, The And That's Another Golden Gopher ...... was started by Dave Lee when he had the PA job.

Imagine how much happier radio listeners would be if he was still the PA guy.

It's the only thing the fans know how to do. I guess I'll have to like it until they figure out how to not screw up the spell out or find some other chant besides the generic "lets go gophers." The "ski u mah" one with the flags had potential, but people couldn't figure out how to do that.

At least the band doesn't play the fight song after every five yard gain like USC or Oklahoma's band.

Totally off topic, but there is a guy in my section (110) who spells MINNESOTA about twice as fast as it should be spelled, and of course because we are Minnesotans, instead of fixing it we follow along and it sounds like trash. I hate that guy.

The accelerated spelling during the Rouser is my biggest pet peeve about game day. I refuse to go along with the sped-up version, actually keep pace with the rhythm, and finish when the band does (and about 3 seconds after most of the rest of the spectators). My wife rolls her eyes and laughs at me every time.

I'm sending in some suggestions on the Ski-U-Mah cheer to fan relations. I'm thinking they should take 30 seconds during every game next season to do a "Gopher History" moment thing on the jumbotron where the history and origin of Ski-U-Mah is explained (it is crazy how few people know where it came from) and letting people know how the school will be honoring it with the cheer. They could also put it into the fan packet that is part of the season tickets, put flyers into the programs, and even put flyers onto the seats. A little extra effort up front can make it into a great tradition.

Last season all they did was wave the flags at first with no one explaining it. Then they tried to have Jamie lead it over the PA, again with no explanation. To no one's surprise, not explaining the cheer in any way did not work out so well.

The jury will disregard that statement as being prejudicial.

I object, I merely stated a fact. If the jury finds the fact that he started it to be the problem, it should stand.

The first down chant is fine. My boys really enjoy it, so even if it's not good for anything else, at least it's a small tool to keep kids engaged.

What I can't stand is the "Rah!" at the end of the Rouser. That needs to stop. Now.

No, you'll pry the Rah from my cold dead hands. ;)

PA guy clearly loves hearing himself talk and thinks the game is about him. Just shut up and stick to the basics. We have a cheerleader and a band, we don't need you trying to inject your awesome personality into the proceedings. The Ski U Mah would catch on if he'd shut up.

I would love to see the Ski U Mah chant gain traction. Simply waving flags on the field won't get it done, especially when done pre-game when people aren't necessarily focusing on the field. Keep sending those e-mails.

It's great when we're rolling (the hogeye and sparty fans in the office have stated it is the most annoying thing) but pathetic when we're down by 30. I say we keep it. The more fan interaction the better.

Ha ha...don't blame the GGFD cheer for our recent struggles. It's not the GGFD cheer's fault that we haven't given it enough chances to shine.

Maybe we need more cheerleaders.
