Recruits

I may be an idiot, I have been called worse. I am just saying that many of the players recuited by the MAC and smaller schools would play in the big 10. there is not that big of gap between players in the MAC and the big 10. Granted the Big 10 has a lot more quality players, but there are very good players in the MAC. So Ben Roethlisberger or Michael Turner couldnt have played in the Big 10? NIU's running back, Chad Spann, would have been the starter here, no doubt in my mind. The MAC isnt the MIAC. to say that you can not have any players that have been recruited to MAC schools in the big 10 is very short sighted.

i wasnt trying to start an argument here, but ben rothlishberger and michael turner obviously were not big time recruits... they are the exception to the norm..... i dont recall a national outburst when big ben signed with miami of ohio... if your point is anyone can become a star you are right... heck decker was what a 2 star recruit, and he became one of my favorite players ever and i think he will have a great career.... however like i stated they are the exception not the norm.....

just was stating my opinion as to if i wanted his verbals.... i said no.

Sounds like we are going to lose M Vann?? He was a nice LB prospect out of Ohio. Not sure if its final.

Hmmmm.... one would think that being Coach K played ball as a LB that Vann would be more likely to stay.. or at least be willing to give the guy a chance first.

Add Brandon Jacobs, coached by Jerry Kill, at Southern Illinois to that list. The schools a recruit is offered by doesn't ALWAYS equate to how good he is or will be. Especially with the right coaching

agreed however, the odds of finding that special person out of his 5 verbals are slim to none...

if you want to win consistantly in the b10 you need recruits rated higher than 1 and 2 star prospects...we didnt lose to niu because niu had better players... we lost because we had a coach who didnt know how to coach.......

And you don't see the flaws in this logic? Add in that you called the poster an idiot, and you can expect people to jump all over you.

That is very true. I agree that guys like that are the exception, not the rule, but I don't think we can immediately disqualify them from a Big Ten scholarship without knowing anything about them. The odds any deserve it, you're right, are slim. But if one is there, you cannot simply let them walk away without doing at least some research or looking.

a monkey could of done more with this mn team this year.... please.... niu had no reason beating us.. if this gopher team lead by horton squared off against niu right now who would win... id put my $ on the gophers... horton knew how to coach these boys, brewster didnt... next please

It's more the depth. MAC schools basically have none. Big Ten schools NEED some to even think about competing in the conference. But on a one hit basis, a well coached MAC school can easily compete with a Big Ten school. But if you took that same MAC school over to the Big Ten, they'd go 1-7 yearly. You gotta have depth, and that's where Kill's recruiting is gonna have to take a step up, being able to get that stable of quality players, not just some and then fill in the rest.

kill knows the players he had on verbal there, if he thinks one could handle the b10, im sure he will do everything he can to bring him on board... imo wasted scholly, but im not a recruiter or the coach.... so arguing over this really holds no merit

So, your take is that simply because we are a B10 school, and thus have superior athletes, any coach, even a monkey, should have beaten a team that was ranked at #24 before their conference championship?

I understand this, I am just talking about Kill's verbals at NIU, if he has a big 10 quality player in his group, I think he needs to try to get him here

Depth

I'm not a recruiting expert. Round numbers, everybody signs 25 guys each year, right? Don't you think the better MAC programs have 3 to 5 guys in their 25 we'd trade our bottom 3 or 5 guys for?

It's the depth. Ohio St gets 15-20 4 & 5 star recruits...they fill it in with 5 3 star guys. We might get one four star guy and 15 3's etc. The MAC gets 5 3's or 4's. I don't know the exact breakdown but my point is that some MAC recruited players can make nice Gopher recruits. I would not just dismiss them.

Coach Kill stated he knew several Gopher players because he recruited them at NIU.

I wasn't really arguing he shouldn't bring any of his NIU verbals. When I say depth, I'm basically saying MAC schools have BT quality players, they just don't have a ton of them. If Kill believes a couple of his verbals would fit in his scheme in the BT, then I agree, he should go grab them and try to bring them here I think.

You are truly a moron.

Most of the ones we were concerned about either had other offers or definitely would have.

I really hope we can hold onto Lacosse though..

I'm hoping for the same on LaCosse. On a good note, according to Scouts Inc, NIU also offered the kid so Kill should have some history with him.

Let's just hope it was a good history with him. If maybe LaCosse liked Kill and didnt go to NIU because of smaller school, smaller conference that kind of thing, good. But if he didnt look seriously at NIU because he didnt like the coaching staff, then that could play against us.

No, I don't, because if we wanted them, we would've offered them. MAC schools very rarely sign kids with Big Ten offers (and yes, that includes Indiana and Minnesota). Your point might be more accurate if you said "3 to 5 guys in the entire MAC".

Now you're talking.
