Not attempting to replace Iggy, but allowing a place to discuss upcoming game in her absence. Asked AI for a suggestion:
The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers women's basketball team is scheduled to play the Washington Huskies on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 5:00 PM CST. The game will take place in Seattle, WA, at the Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
Game Summary and Recent Performance
This will be a regular season Big Ten matchup between the two teams. Washington previously defeated Minnesota at home with a score of 72-62 earlier in the season on February 26, 2025.
  • Washington is currently on a strong run, having won their last four games, including the prior victory over Minnesota. Key players for the Huskies include Elle Ladine and Dalayah Daniels, known for their efficient shooting and strong presence on the boards. Washington leads the Big Ten in three-point shooting percentage (37.5%).
  • Minnesota will be looking to bounce back from their previous loss to Washington and a recent road loss to Michigan State. The Gophers have strong individual performers like Grace Grocholski and Amaya Battle, who both earned Big Ten Honorable Mention honors in the previous season.
The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network (BTN).

Thanks for doing this, I want to encourage you and not discourage.

The recent Gophers road loss was to Michigan, not Michigan State.

Gophers did not lose to Washington earlier this season. It was earlier in the year 2025 in the Big Ten tournament at the end of last season.

I should have read it closer. Guess one shouldn't trust AI. We did lose to Washington last time we played them.

But hopefully others can add to the narrative or view on the upcoming game. :)

We actually played Washington twice last season. Lost 72-62 at the Barn on February 26 and then lost in first round Big Ten tourney action 79-65 on March 5 in Indy.

A quick way to learn more is to go the opponent's school web site and look at game notes. For the Gophers, you can go to the schedule, pull up last year's schedule and see box scores and recaps.

Our game notes are generally out there about 24 hours before the game - you can go to womens' basketball on gophersports.com and find those, too.

In both games last year, thought Ladine and Daniels were the key players for Washington. Daniels is gone, and the combined replacement by Grabovskaia and McGaughy is not as effective. Ladine, for her part, does not seem fully healthy this year (missed 6 games), and scoring average is way down. Good opportunity for a road win for the Gophers. Will have to defend the 3. Washington leads the league in 3-pt makes per game in conference play.

Opportunity for a Quad 1 win today. As of today, Gophers are 0-4 in Quad 1 games, though USC is a high Quad 2 victory that could turn into a Quad 1 victory.

From Washington team site:

It showed some Fox station that it’s on, but it was so small, we could not see it. And I have an 80” TV……

Q1 thoughts:
Pro:
Braun on fire and defense outstanding
Team defense great!

Cons:
Glenn can’t hit a shot
End of quarter execution still terrible
No offense except for mostly long 3s. Luckily they’re falling.

Gophers defense is legit, just imagine if they could score?Team would be scary good. Washington can finish at the rim so far difference in the game. Oh and free throws…need..to..make..those
